I decided to rip some of the textures from dissidia/dissidia 012 and convert them for use in TF2 for medieval mode maps (now since these are pretty much square enix's property these cant be part of a map that you want to become official for copyright reasons) I did these purely to cure my boredom I will probably rip and convert more of them then upload a dissidia texture pack eventually.;)

NOTE: The pictures shown are from a test level I made to test all of the ones I have ripped so far so some of the textures are not aligned/used properly just humor me and enjoy the view.

They don't really work with TF2, especially not in the second screen, but really overall, they don't suit the tf2 style, even for medieval mode (If you look at textures that are in degroot, and really all over tf2, that fits with the TF2 style, not this). The last screenshot looks more like CSS, the top one probably as well, though I have no idea where that would actually be used in any other game apart from FF. What you have to remember is that Game designers make textures for their games and they generally only fit in those games (with a few that could be crossed over in very very similar ones). I know that this is more of a tribute to the FF series, so you could probably get away with ignoring my babble, just remember there is a difference, and it's really what makes designing/mapping/texturing/detailing/modeling so hard to tf2, because you generally (ignoring all the recent weapons and stuff) have to fit into a tight hard to do art style.

And please, whatever you do, keep these away from Quakeman.

also .. im sure that some people or new people try to do a map ... just because they want a tf2 map and not a tf2 original and normal themed map for the first map .

You can have new theme without going out of tf2 style, maps like Zig, Loot and Tidal would agree on this statement.

flame I know they mostly don't fit with TF2 but that doesn't mean people wont use them. like what wankhouse said there are maps that don't fit with the TF2 theme because of their textures but that doesn't hinder the fact that people like them. for all I care they can put the textures into their CS:S, HL2, or DoDS materials folder as long as people like it I really don't care.

I understand that, it's just when you warned people about not being able to be used in a map that will become official, and that they could be used in medieval mode, I kinda thought hmmmm... Is he trying to pass these as real textures or just fun ones?

Or hardhat, though less so than the above two.

Penguin just had to stick his plug in there.

These textures would probably look terrible in TF2, but I think the grassy screenshot looks kind of nice.

actually the chaos temple textures look real nice given the right lighting for example this screenshot I took a few hours ago.

On the other hand the Pandemonium textures just don't look as well in TF2 even with lighting similar to how it is in dissidia.

NOTE: yes I did take the time to recreate the stages from dissidia granted with some changes (Chaos Temple)

there illegal to use as your own property i.e (claim as your own) there is nothing wrong using the textures them selves as long as you don't try and take ownership of them from square enix which I have not and clearly stated I ripped and ported them and never claimed them as my own work. long story short they are free to use.

-UPDATE BEFORE I HEAD TO BED-

seeings as the Pandemonium textures don't fit well I wont put them in the pack but I will keep them for personal use.

The Texture Pack as it stands ATM and some advice on how to use them right.

Temple of Chaos-
these are mainly for inside areas and do not appear well on the out side they are best viewed with the torch entities from degroot keep it makes them fit with medieval mode as if they are apart of an occult temple. a night skybox is advised.

Dimensional Castle-
Best viewed using the upward skybox and are used for outside maps.

Scaling with these textures
most of them are better setting the x and y scale to .5 the grass is better at .25

I wouldn't bother leaving anything out. If you have some FF textures you might as well release them all. They probably wont get used but there's always someone out there that's interested.

I think it's obvious that these wont get used in an official capacity. So for those ranting on religiously about how they're not thematically correct, it's wasted breath (because it's probably besides the point). He simply has some ported textures, so it goes without saying that they're more than likely thematically incorrect. A single comment explaining this should suffice, not several paragraphs and members worth of replies on the matter.

A) Ports are usually just for fun, whether it's maps or textures. Because of the contrasting styles between 2 games there will inevitably be narrative inconsistancies.

B) Ported material will never go official because of legal/copyright/license issues. This will vicariously make it unpopular for wide use. This may not be the case, perhaps, if the game it was ported from was also a release from the same company. Such as a ported texture from Day of Defeat: Source. In some rare instances Valve have utilised HL2 textures; such as the commonly used metal stair texture and the rusted metal gear found in dustbowl.
