Things We Don't Like About TF2

Well I hope it's we. Otherwise this will just be the thread of one lonely guy bitching about a game he still loves to play.

  1. Servers that pretend to be full by using bots
  2. Servers that use bots.
  3. The hats that don't fit the game's aesthetic
  4. (See previous) All of the hats. Even the non-hats that are just a class without a hat
  5. New weapons that cause unwanted visual spam
  6. New weapons that fix a class' weakness, thus overpowering that class
  7. New weapons that improve a spy's chance of scoring a cheap kill (or more simply, any kill)
  8. Well, to be honest with you, all of the new weapons
  9. Arena Mode
  10. The fact that I have to combine at least 50 different items just to get a stupid hat I didn't want in the first place
  11. People who actually capture the bag in 2fort
  12. And the hats. Did we mention the hats?

Feel free to add your own

It's not that I don't disagree with some things in the game. It's that constant whining is really fucking annoying no matter the subject.

polycount sets.

literally every one of them makes it easier imo. maybe not pyro. but spy, soldier, and sniper's poly sets are ezzzmode. dont even mention the freaking milkman set.

Pyro polyset makes it easier. Only downside is having the powerjack instead of axtinguisher, but that has its uses. Increased speed is just insane.

I also dislike people who pretend they don't dislike anything about the game
You really think I don't have any problems with this game? HAH

The art style is dead, a bunch of weapons are unbalanced, (FoS), fucking hats everywhere, and the community at large is not exactly all that smart. But know know what, oh fucking well. I play this game to have fun and if you let some dumb hats get if the way of your fun so be it. Everyone has problems with this game but I just chose to put them on the backburner so I am have a good time rather that bitch and wine about how the game is "ruined"

This thread is horrible because its only goal is to let people toss shit at Valve all day long without any consequences. You want to make this a good thread? Well not only give your complaints but WHY you feel that way and HOW you think it should be fixed.

No, that's not what customers need to do. Most of the time the wrongest thing a game developer can do is listen to what customers "think" is wrong and "think" should be fixed. All a customer needs to do really is mention things he feels are wrong with the game, and then the developer has to think hard about these things. You don't have to be a master cook to realize when a meal just doesn't taste well. That said I still want to voice my opinion, I'm just saying dismissing feedback just because they mention no constructive fix isn't the best course of action.

Secondly, the problem with most things in TF2 is that there's no way to fix them. You can't, I tried. Most of the mechanics are not salvageable so all you can really suggest is to remove them again, which doesn't work anymore as the things have settled already and are tied to a store. Ultimately, Valve should never have added them in the first place, that would've been the only cure. We just want to make sure Valve listens and doesn't pull the same joke again (Dota 2 with even more random items anyone?).

What I am personally trying to do is tweak the things that are salvageable and ban the rest on my/Sel's server. This leads to hilarious results once you realize banning hats and reskins bans more than half of all items in the TF2 item list. Then the entire Winter update also ends up banned since there's arguably nothing that actually added to the game. I think everyone could live without the Warrior's Spirit. The items are either broken (FoS, Steak) or useless (Crossbow, Claymore) or just some of the worst offenders of art style yet (Candy Cane). Promo items are also banned by default as a pay-to-win mentality can poison an entire game.

There are people whining about the whitelist, going "oh no there's no reason to ban the items, if they're so bad nobody will use them anyway!". But they could and you never know which item an enemy has, it's just clutter. It's a whitelist, not a blacklist - if you want to see an item on the server, you actually have to say why it may be useful and what new playstyle or strategy it offers. Things like the Back Scratcher, Jag or Boston Basher just don't cut it. Of the Winter items, it's probably the Ullapool Caber that's most likely to make the cut.

Valve sees TF2 as a giant experiment and casualized it quite a bit, leaving the more dedicated fanbase hanging. You don't randomly add a new piece to Chess every month "to keep people interested in the game". Multiplayer games with dynamic gameplay (and a constant supply of new maps) won't ever get old if they're made well enough, which TF2 was.

That's probably the gist of my opinion. You can play the game to have fun, I can too, but I just preferred when I could have some mindless fun OR play seriously. The latter part suffered horribly the last few months.
