Well, what do you know how to do yet. Are you like just beginning to use hammer, or trying to make a first tf2 map with some mapping experience already ?

Hey and Welcome Golden,

Golden, if your looking for assistance, try our Tutorials sections here, or try the Valve Deveopers communtiy here.

And if you can't find answers there, then make a post in the Mapping and Discussions forums.

Again, Weclome, and good luck!

Wait, what?

Is there something that's NOT mapping that hammer does that I should know about?

You just gotta start...then finish ;)

Usually easier to work on something, then ask help on specific problems then just ask if anyone will help.
Sure people will help, that's what the forum is about. But I doubt anyone will hold your hand or do it for you.

The tuts section has tons of stuff, probably about anything you need to know.

Why not start with the spawn room tut. It'll help you get a hang on mapping for TF2 specifically, and you'll have a functional spawn room at the end. (which can be added onto or copy/pasted into another map you're working on)

From now on it is mandatory for quakeman to help any new member out, because this is how it should be right?

jesus christ argh

In all seriousness though, quakeman is the worst mapper I have ever seen. Don't collab with him in any way, he hardly has any clue what he's doing. Maybe he'll learn eventually, but right now I'm worried his maps will give me a bsod.

quakeman is either unable or unwilling to learn

either unable or unwilling to understand certain ideas

unable or unwilling to take constructive criticism

If you are serious about learning to make maps, I don't recommend letting him teach you anything

thx for the idea you have of me
Ü <-- epic smile

It's not like I formed it before you posted

In fact, if you look back, I've probably tried to help you and defended you the most of all other posters here

You've given me this impression, no one else.

I can appreciate that you want to help people, but I think you need to go back and learn the basics. You have a HUGE area completely outside of your boss map, which never gets used in any way. You displace every face of a brush instead of just the ones you need. You've decided to seal the entire map (including the gigantic unused-in-any-way area) inside one hollow box. EVERYTHING inside your map renders at once, and your map has so many problems that vvis wouldn't even run.

http://rvanhoorn.ruhosting.nl/optimization.php?chapter=notices might help you understand a few things a little bit better, I'm not sure you'd be able to apply the information about hints, but you could try to understand. As for displacements, 3D skyboxes, or whatever else you're having trouble with, there are already tons of nice tutorials out there. Just search for them.
