Can't download maps from official servers

Basically what the title says, TF2 tells me that the map file is missing and doesn't try to download from the server, which makes impromptus 100% pointless because I can't download the maps in advance.

What's going on ? :O

your ISP DNS hasn't found the redirect yet.

Yes but I was looking for the url of the redirect to see if I could tweak the hosts file. Anyway it apparently fixed itself...

Interestingly, I will occasionally be unable to download the map on the first try, but re-entering the server will do it. Even more interestingly, I will occasionally be unable to access the site itself, but hitting Try Again a time or three will get me in.

I wonder if there's a connection...

The site's DNS is really messed up.

I switched to Google DNS and it works fine, no issues. But previously on Open DNS and then my ISP's DNS, the site would be inaccessible for anywhere between hours and days.

I think you guys ought to check on whatever controls that.

Basically what yyler said. I haven't been able to get on the site for days, the only way I'm on here now is through some host file editing. I also can't download maps from the redirect.

If you can't access the site, try flushing your DNS:

win+r => cmd => ipconfig /flushdns

This should enable you to view the site/download maps from the redvsblu.net servers at all times.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who's had the issue of random site inaccessibility.

I tried flushing my DNS at least a dozen times, no change. Got a new computer recently, and it does it too. Does it perhaps have to be the computer hosting the wireless network used to access the site that has the DNS flushed?

I told whoever brought this up before to do that, and believe me I tried it myself when the problems started affecting me, too.

If I remember right the resolvers point to the redvsblu network but also the steamprofile site in some cases and if I understand this right it's that conflict that is messing things up for people

I use Google's DNS and I've had no problems whatsoever.
