Let's Play
Far Cry 2

What's this game you're playing? Is it as bad as Harry Potter?
Heavens no! Far Cry 2 is a genuinely good game about a war in Africa. Two rival factions start to fight and some guy named The Jackal is supplying them both with weaponry. Our main character, Sir Choose From a List of Guys, is sent in to kill him, but things go horribly wrong right off the bat.

Why are you playing this, then?
Far Cry is a good game, but it does have moments where you think, "What the fuck was that?" or "That was pretty cool." There are a lot of ways you can mess around with the game too, because the AI isn't particularly smart and the physics can be a bit wonky.

Will this be a 100% run?
There is a lot of stuff to collect in Africatown, Africa. In addition to attacking every guard post on the map, if you want 100% you also have to find hidden diamonds and Jackal tapes that sometimes require you to be godlike in your platforming skills. I don't know enough about this game to be able to find everything, so I'm just not going to bother collecting much of them on screen. However, I will be showing off some diamonds and tapes during my run.

So what will you show off?
I will try to complete every faction mission and their alternate objective (your best buddy will mostly give you other objectives to complete.) I'll also show off every mission for the underground, which means helping people give me medicine, and hopefully every weapon you can buy, though I won't be good with all of them.

Will you show off the side missions such as the Gunshop missions?
I will show each type of side mission once, because they're very boring to carry out and watch constantly. Most of the side missions will be done off screen for your convenience. I will still do a lot of them because you need to to get all the weapons and money to buy things, but I won't do many of the buddy side missions because they're really just a lot of effort for no reward. You'll see what I mean soon.

What about viewer participation?
This is a good one! Our main character will be audience chosen and so will the order of weapons to buy (though I'll try to use a different loadout for each mission.) If there's ever a story branch, I'll ask you guys how I should advance before doing so.

Enough of the wall of text! Let's get to the game!
Alright as soon as I have a character. Vote below.

First we need to decide on a character. The only real effect on gameplay this choice has is that we won't have a chance to become buddies with our selected character. Also we only see their hands, so let's run through our potential bachelors(?)!

Marty Alencar
He's Brazilian-American, but also the whitest kid you'd know! Marty is the default option for the game and also sports a stylish scarf that we will never see. Marty enjoys long walks on the beach, alcoholic drinks, and shooting terrorists in Afghanistan.

Warren Clyde
This guy is from Oklahoma, but he swears he's Hispanic! He worked as bodyguard in the Dominican Republic, and also has a pilot's licence in the Bahamas. Warren's hobbies include collecting coins from around the world and not dying.

Josip Idromeno
Some say his mustache could kill a man. Some say it has. Josip has worked as a trucker and a paratrooper, driving out of airplanes in his semi and taking potshots at insurgents on the way to his eventual destination.

ss20110115134148.png

Paul Ferenc
Paul was born in Hungary but lives in Israel. There is nothing else interesting about him.

Quarabi Singh
If you can think of something, Quarabi has done it. He has a stylish beard and a nice turban and is a very kind hearted person deep down. His most recent interest was as a security coordinator in Darfur. He did the job so well that after he left, they didn't bother to hire anyone else.

ss20110115134936.png

Andre Hyppolite
If you need a black guy to kill someone, Andre's your man! He's worked in every form of military I can think of, including organized, unorganized, and semi-organized. He's also probably a little less racist than everybody else in the game. I guess. He's from Haiti. That's in Africa, right?

ss20110115135410.png

Hakim Echebbi
Hakim is a real estate agent... uh... or so his dossier says. Those bullets are, I dunno, some sort of ad campaign, maybe. I dunno he just doesn't look like a real estate agent. Oh yeah and he worked as a consultant. Uh, maybe they're consulting bullets?

ss20110115135753.png

Frank Bilders
Also known as "The Maze" to fellow inmates, Frank is insane. He's also Irish, which means he's super lucky. I guess it takes luck to channel his insanity into resourcefulness. Frank's interests include homocide, smuggling, and killing his smuggling clients.

Xianyong Bai
He's from China and he's bard. I guess that counts as an interest. Even if it's onry a rittre bit of his personarity it sure does give me something more to write about other than something rearry racist rike repracing arr my r's with r's or something chirdish rike that.

Choose soon! Voting ends in 2 days!

I remember playing this game, the Far Cry map editor is fun, I created a map called trainyard and I think it is still up on the map download page. I think I just chose the default character and I got all the hideouts and stuff and found one of the 26 golden AKs but I didn't play it that much. Very fun game though, one of those ones that does sandbox right
