Cheating in the arcade

At the risk of sounding like a crybaby, I'm calling out Jimbomcb as a cheater in Asteroids and Space Invaders. If you look at the high scores, both of his games were played in a ridiculously short time span.

For Asteroids, it only took him 1:31. That's the lowest time of anyone in the top ten, even though he scored nearly 60,000 more points than the 10th place finisher.

For Space Invaders, it only took him 3:43, which is WAY less than anyone in the top 10, and I'm more or less sure is physically impossible given the nature of the game.

Any opinions?

Yeah I noticed that as well. I imagine it either has something to do with an exploit of the vB code that grabs the score data or the flash games themselves. Good times :)

The Asylum

Remember how back in the day, you could take an entire reel of prize tickets out of game machines by pulling reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeal slow?

As much as I loved Skee-Ball I hardly ever played it.

I think the board records your latest "time played" rather than the "time played" with your "highest score". That may be why the score is so high. Look into it, I've noticed that once I set a high score, and I play again, and I happen to not set the new score, it records my time anyway.

Nice catch. I just tested this by playing a short game of Tower Defense and the time for my top score changed from 45 mins to 02:18.

Now I have to do another game to look legit :)

oooh crap. I feel kinda bad now.

Jerk!

Technically speaking we've only proved the existence of a bug, not that that particular person did or did not cheat in some way :)
