So why are some people pissing their pants about this? Seems like a good way to encourage more custom map production. Wahhh I didn't like a map so the whole system is flawed.

No. You gave money to Heyo. That is technically funding terrorism.

Junction has some damned cool detailing though. I often reference it when messing with spytech detailing.

Anyway, I've started noticing a "Top Recent Donators" thing on the loading screen. The names had a number after them; I'm assuming this is the number of stamps they bought for that particular map. This is kind of nice for the mappers because it encourages a little competition to donate the most. I'll be very interested to see if this creates a nice little income burst for them or not.

[Edit] Doh. The junction stuff was in response to the last page. Somehow thought I was on the last page.

You gave them about two cents per stamp.

Thought they get all of it?

In the early days there wasn't much of a selection (maps were either broken or OK, so obviously the OK ones get in) and Arena was a new game mode so that's a bonus for attention. Many people jibe about hoodoo as well but you can see why Valve would have chosen it. It was one of the first community payloads at a time of only goldrush.

Lets just thank YM that he went back and made several changes after it went official so it was less broken. I still have nit picks but i wont leave a server anymore if it comes on.

They get the whole thing minus applicable taxes, which is like 90c in this case. Nineaxis said in chat that he gets ~2 cents per Hoodoo stamp and Void gets ~6 per a Coldfront one.

Medic taunt = incredibly powerful but buggy as fuck... 6 attempts in a row didn't do anything on nearby team-mates - I think it might have been because we were in a building but I could see them all and we were fairly nearby so it should've worked.

...

Also - I really didn't think there would be so much tax on donations? Surely there's a better method Valve could use?

Medic taunt can't heal through the world but can heal through props, even static ones.

Clarification:
We get ALL of it, minus any applicable taxes (usually none or very little, due to US Tax Treaties with other countries)

After that, the profits are divided according to a private agreement between the contributors for every map. Contributors like nineaxis and void would get an appropriate fraction of what the mappers would get.

We're not getting gimped.

Can't possibly be 90% tax, unless they're non-US and getting hit by something like VAT or its equivalent. I notice they're not the main map creators however, so I'd expect it's what's left of their share after taxes. Eg, the main creator gets 90%, a contributor gets 10% or 6% after tax makes more sense.

I doubt they're actually filing it as a donation, since in the US there's strict regulations on who can accept donations. Counts as income for anyone else.

[Edit] Ninja'd.

Finally can make tf2 maps without these silly rocket jumps

Too bad Medieval mode is terrible.

Wondering why they didn't note the Shortstop change in the main post at all.

I wonder if we can leverage this stamp system to give people an incentive to make updates to minor but nagging issues with their maps. Like, just as a f'rinstance, pledging to buy so many stamps for Egypt if it gets some improved detailing like colored-in heiroglyphs and real fire particles in the torches, maybe some excavation equipment here and there.

I'm really underwhelmed - almost shocked - about the quality of the new theme's assets. It totally lacks the typical valve love of doing nice thematic additions.
I don't know...Slowly starting to dislike what happens in the tf2world.
Money over game :/

I agree. This may be the first TF2 update where I am disappointed and in fact strongly dislike parts of it.

I didn't even hate the Sandman when it launched. But I can't say I feel the same about the new stuff in this update.
