The amputator taunt sounds really OP. I mean, just spam it to give huge amount of health to your teammates. (Imagine dustbowl 3rd stage last CP, that corner place)

Donations sounds like a really pants way to allow community map makers additional funds. If i'm honest, i feel most of the community made maps are broken or have aesthetic issues that should have been sorted before they became officialised. I'm not sure there's a single officialised map that i actually enjoy playing (although there are a couple that i don't have problems with, i just don't like the gameplay). But that's just me being a snob.

As much as i appreciate Valve's commitment to an author's original work making the cut, sometimes i wish there was an editing process that would go into an ammatuer map and fix up some of the inherent problems that come with the author's limited understanding at the time of X's maps construction; for the sake of the maps potential. Or at least have a little more commitment from the author's when it comes to improving an existing piece of work despite the fact they've already profited from it. Or maybe pride (in my work) is just my sin.

Still, it's better than nothing. I guess companies like Valve aren't willing to go that extra distance for community map makers and have left it to other community members to support each other. Maybe it'll work but i don't have faith in a system like that.

Don't slam the system down like that when you don't even know how people will react to it. For all we know mappers could pull in just as much as the polycount people or much less... Give it till the first check rolls in, then we can see if it was really a good idea or not.

I don't think his point was "mappers won't make as much as the modelers", it seemed to be "some of these mappers don't deserve more money for their crap" (but truth be told, same goes for some of the modelers, so meh)

They have every right to be angry about actual weapons that are paid-only, though. The rest? Not so much.

This. 10x this.

People deserve what they deserve. If you make something that is godly, you deserve godly pay. If you make something that resembles a half-assed pile of shit, then you deserve a half-ass pile of shit pay.

Pretty much that. Earnings should be dictated by success and that's the kind of system i expected. Donations are fine, if someone feels like donating to an author of a map i don't like that's fine also. But you potentially end up with situations where even if someone made a quality piece of work, it doesn't get as many donations because of the circumstances of the individuals that are enjoying X authors work. Such as say a large majority being under 18 and with no access to banking. blah blah..

A lot of the poly pack was done by items sold = X profit for author so i would have expected something along the lines of amount of players per month/whatever = X profit. Since these maps are also determining the success of TF2.

A little harsh about watchtower... While it might not be community map material, it's not completely awful - it does some things right. Where it falls down is the unimaginative detailing and the fact that the point isn't supposed to be somewhere for one team to hold until the point caps, the teams should be fighting around it and then be drawn to the middle when the point unlocks.

I guess there's not really any way that it could be changed to make it so that wasn't the case though

More people wil donate to the maps they like, which would mean the maps the community likes more will get more money. Although a system of diving a porion of donations based off the maps with more Players or with the most servers Might be good, but it sounds redundant.

Lolz at above
