Wait, what?
Surf maps are MUCH harder to make than a regular map. They have been pushing what many thought was possible in mapping and will do for a long time. Most of the solidsurf maps take in excess of 3 months to complete! You have no idea how hard it is to make smooth ramps like they do.
LOL WUT?

Bout time somebody tries to do something about it to give maps finally some freakin fair scores. Only map reviewers should be able to rate imho... GJ vile/shmitz

Not sure why people were complaining about a lack of communication in the community, seems like they were too eager to defend surf maps that they completely missed the point.

Great idea for FPSB. But, I see no problem with surf maps, I've been surfing since the days surf_egypt came out for source. Surf maps aren't made for aesthetics. Regular maps shouldn't be made for aesthetics.

Maps are made for gameplay.

That is and should be a mapper's number one priority. Then comes aesthetics. But in surf, most people don't care about aesthetics as much as the gameplay. So again, I see everyone missing the point. In regular games, I would much rather play a Orange Dev'd valve map than any custom map made purely for looks.

Point is, people have taken this too far about what a sin it is to make a surf map. I've made some in the past, and still fail to see how aesthetics play such an important factor.

Anyways... still a great idea for FPSB.

Don't see why you care so much, most places you will find surf maps are on servers dedicated to them. Alot of these usually have a good number of people on too. Not like you play normal custom map servers and a surf map pops up at random too much.

Who actually posts their maps on FPSB here? I don't see that many, everyone should post their late beta to final maps on FPSB it gives good coverage and if we all mention tf2maps.net in out readme files or description....

Somebody need to come up with an actual full fledged surf game so that people will stop littering non-surf games with crap that doesn't belong.

Too true.

/Guranteed to get me flamed

How exactly surf maps so terrible? Could someone make a list or something, because the way I see it now is simply: You guys must suck at surfing.

Don't even bother trying to preach the "Because they're ugly" thing again, because as said in the past. It's not the point.

I personally haven't been surfing since my CS:S days... although I'll probably get back into surfing sometime. Maybe even make a surf map for TF2.

As a kid I was taught not to judge a book by it's cover, so if you can't surf - Don't bother posting. I hope some/all of you take the time to at least try a decent server dedicated to surf. Play a couple maps.
