• Improved painting on the following all-class hats: Ghastly Gibus, Ghastlier Gibus, Spine-Chilling Skull, Voodoo Juju, Wiki Cap, Bill’s Hat.

• Improved painting on the following Scout-specific hats: Batter’s Helmet, Troublemaker’s Tossle Cap, Bonk Helmet, Ye Olde Baker Boy, Whoopee Cap, Bombing Run.

• Improved painting on the following Soldier-specific hats: Soldier’s Stash, Tyrant’s Helm, Stout Shako.

• Improved painting on the following Pyro-specific hats: Brigade Helm, Respectless Rubber Glove, Vintage Merryweather, Handyman’s Handle, Napper’s Respite.

• Improved painting on the following Demoman-specific hats: Demoman’s Fro, Glengarry Bonnet, Scotsman’s Stove Pipe, Hustler’s Hallmark, Tippler’s Tricorne, Carouser’s Capotain, Rimmed Raincatcher.

• Improved painting on the following Engineer-specific hats: Texas Ten Gallon.

• Improved painting on the following Medic-specific hats: Prussian Pickelhaube, Vintage Tyrolean, Gentleman’s Gatsby.

• Improved painting on the following Sniper-specific hats: Master’s Yellow Belt.

• Improved painting on the following Spy-specific hats: Fancy Fedora, Backbiter’s Billycock, Magistrate’s Mullet.

• Restored the Frenchman’s Beret’s color scheme and phong mask.

• Improved the Carouser’s Capotain’s original model.

• Improved the Handyman’s Handle’s original model and texture.

• Fixed issues with the Scotsman’s Skullcutter’s smoothing and the Vita-saw’s smoothing.

• Made the following items paintable: Sergeant’s Drill Hat, Pyro’s Beanie, Whiskered Gentleman, Safe’n’Sound, Trophy Belt, Frenchman’s Beret, Camera Beard, Max’s Severed Head, Alien Swarm Parasite

And if I am not mistaken someone (I think ABS) said something about Valve possibly fixing func_rotating in TF2.

aka obligatory me complaining at every patch.


Although yay for capotain fix. and im excited about painting mah whiskers.

So they're going to "improve painting" on every hat? Sounds to me like they're replacing the old method with giving every hat a dedicated skin for every color.

I fairly sure i'm correct in saying that no this isn't what Daimao has done. He's made new painted hat materials where the painted section is white and the .vmt(?) changes the colour of that. So twice the amount of textures for each hat, painted and unpainted

The not-so-secret-secret is out!

Will be a good patch, it should be out Tuesday after the Valve guys get back from holidays.

Yeah, saw this on FP earlier. Will be good to get the paint fix in game, though I already use it. I really want a trophy belt now :D

Trophy Belt being paintable.. well. I expected better.

I main as Sniper and that's my favorite hat. I really would have loved to see something much better than the same thing they did with the Soldier's Stash.

What I believe they should have done with the Trophy Belt is have the sniper's default hat as part of the Trophy Belt and let it be paintable.
In other words, instead of the Trophy Belt being just the belt itself (with the teeth) you have the hat the sniper wears when you don't have a hat equipped as part of the Trophy Belt. This could allow for better possibilities with the Trophy Belt.

I'd paint the Trophy Belt black to achieve this sort of look: Example 1 and Example 2.

Personally, I think that would be a lot better than what they're going to do with the Trophy Belt in the next update.

The Sniper's hat isn't actually part of the hat itself. The Trophy Belt is built around the hat. They'd need to overhaul the whole thing in order to do that.

Yeah, which is unfortunate. I really would love to dye it black and have a Crocodile Dundee style hat for the Trophy Belt. If I was any good with graphical editing I'd try to make an image to share of how it might look. Sadly, my skills are lacking there.
