Got an idea for a map, gonna be a CP. My CTF map is on the backburner for now.

I have a really good idea for a setting. Will be easy to do with existing resources and TF style but is deffinately something I haven't seen that anyone else has done for TF2.

Not really sure which style of CP I want to go with, that might depend on the responses I get from you guys on what style you'd like to see.

By 'style' I mean a regular sized map or a 'mouse' map.

If regular sized I'd probably go with a 3-4 point map. Probably just a 1 round thing.

If mouse map then I might like to try a tcp map like Hydro.

But the 'mouse style' one wouldn't be quite on the scale of Toyfort. That's a pretty cool map but I think being that small almost locks gameplay down too much and would be too hard to make a setting for.

For example. One area would have a balcony. I'd like it to be accessible so most likely the players would be like 1/2 scale. That way they could jump up stairs, maybe 2 at a time. Maybe 20 stairs max. They would have to be accessible to all player types and I wouldn't want to make everyone jump/crouch to get up them, that would be tedious.

So what do you think? would a semi-micro map be cool. Where the players are 2-3 feet tall, or should I just go full size? I think alot of the reason that micro-maps are so cool is because they seem so distorted. Having players only half size wouldn't quite match that. It would most likely make alot of areas just more open and spacious.

hey frag,

no it isnt possible to resize models at all. its something that would be amazing to have in hammer, but valve has not implemented it.

Well, there's a Toy Soldiers "mod" in the works, at first I thought the project might have been shelved, but Kernal just posted an update last week. You can get more info on it here.

Thanks,

I'm currently crashing Hammer trying to make a decent displacement barrel.

Probably just end up using brushes.

--------
I've started this map and I've got it pinned down to a pretty good scale I think.

I'm doing the player at 1/3 scale. Can hop up stairs without crouching, still makes you feel small. The main reason I'm doing this is the setting I've chosen is fairly limited in how many buildings I can actually have.

Making everything huge will spread the map out alot and give it a unique feel.

Looks like I'll either have to remodel stuff/ or just use brushes/displacements for props.
----------
Is it possible to use model textures on terrain/brushes/displacements. I think I read somewhere that Hammer didn't like it.

I really don't want to resize Hammer objects and rerelease them so I'll probably end up using models I have made for another game and adjusting tex or reusing TF2 tex for them. I'm gonna try to keep that to a minumum though for file size.

Luckily alot of my older stuff could be considered 'cartoony', kindof blocky, so I think I have quite a few things I could reuse with minimal effort.

I believe that you can use model textures on terrain/brushes/displacements, however you shouldn't as the shadows/refelctions will be all worng
