Mirrored versions of Dustbowl, Gravelpit and Badwater Basin maps.

The Concept: To take popular VALVe made maps from Team Fortress 2 and mirror them as accurately as possible to their originals. Right becomes left, left becomes right, giving maps that all TF2 players know like the backs of their hands a fresh take.

The Result: You'll find yourself having to rethink every turn in a map that that you haven't found yourself lost in for up to 3 years.. It can really mess with your head while you adjust.

The above download link is for the pack containing all 3 maps (65mb). Individual maps can be downloaded here - http://www.khuntza.net/TF2MirroredMapsSeries1.html

DISCLAIMER: I don't like modified Valve maps. Night versions, theme changes, added routes; they make me cringe. I understand that being edits to Valve maps that they aren't for everyone. I'm also the first to admit that there isn't a whole lot of skill involved in the production of these maps. My intention is not to showcase my skills as a mapper, or to gain respect, but to share a fun project and give a fresh alternative to popular, yet tired, maps.

we need to play these all in a row as an event.
I just loaded it up, spent the whole time crashing into walls and going the wrong way.

At first I thought you meant you made these symmetrical and I was extremely confused.

No, no.. these are horizontally flipped versions of the originals.. I have kept them as true to the originals as possible.. nothings been butchered here..

My mind = blown

Seriously, I thought I could handle this when I first realized what it was. THEN I looked at the screenshots which proceeded to scramble my brains.

you could probably write these into a tutorial, it's amazing what details you notice in comparison.
It's interesting you mention that. A trick the "old masters" would use when painting, was to occasionally look at their painting through a mirror, because it causes imperfections and problems to immediately jump out at you, and it remains useful to this day with photoshop being able to flip pictures. I'm sure the same applies to maps, though it is more difficult to do with Hammer, perhaps just mirroring screenshots is a good idea.

This is a pretty cool idea.

They will play worse: i warn you that. the natural inclination of players is to turn right, and valve played on that. (you'll notice that most maps such as this are often spirals, so EVERY major turn is to the right.

But i agree, i really want to play these.

I don't think this is entirely true.

Aw, I thought everything was turned into 5cp via mirroring. Oh well ;)

you'll notice that most maps such as this are often spirals, so EVERY major turn is to the right.

Upwards comes to mind as a significant exception, while Thunder Mountain's final stage is also lots and lots of left-turning. Hoodoo has a bit of both.

Hahaha this is totally awesome. Only problem is (i think) you cannot mirror the models...Nice sniper positions on badwater are gone :(

Anyway, maps are running on Schlachtfestchen servers:

sfchen.de:27015 SCHLACHTFESTCHEN.de - Drink 'n' Fight! #1
sfchen.de:27018 SCHLACHTFESTCHEN.de - Drink 'n' Fight! #2

We're making a special event for this on Thursday 20.00 CET ;)
