re: The wooden bridge in sandstone

1) use hammer ropes to get a believable curve.
2) block out the shape with brushes until you get a good approximation of the shape in 12-20 blocks (intensive)
3) use the previously made ropes as the hand rails
<model part>
4) select the bridge brushes, copy to a new file, export as dxf
5) import file into 3d modelling program of choice. you now have your collision mesh for your bridge model
6) use splines to create an approximate curve that follows the imported mesh. extrude a rectangle along the spline, add some cuts into it.
8) use the previous splines to create the two side guards, extrude a cylinder along it (6-8 sides )
9) UVmapping time (joy!)
10) AO map
11) texture time with image editing program of choice
12) export 2 smds: the model and collision mesh
13) qc editing & compiling, problem solving, etc.
14) open model in hammer and squeal in joy as it worked properly.

If that helps anyone, or inspires them to attempt this process, then i wish you good luck.
now i really need to setup my units in 3dmax. Done.

Awesome. A little too ripply if you ask me, and arguably doesn't go with the TF2 theme so well, and it has one of the same problems that effects/water_warp had, of appearing to move more at greater distances. Maybe someone here who has a better grasp of how this works can refine it into something that matches the game's default underwater effect. Possibly using one of the built-in water textures as the base.

Gotta quote that to the next page.
I was just scrolling around and then BAM a rock :D
haha that was so brilliant. Someone needs to give it evil eyes and attach a giant chain around its "neck".

On a serious note. The top texturing of this base kinda makse no sense. There's huge stones on the side but on the top it's a tiny stone texture. There should at least be a trim, that indicates, that the bigger stones have values are not a tiny thin wallpaper. You know what i mean ?

I know what you mean, and my response is that this is still alpha.

Egypt is pretty easy to detail in that regard, but some stuff (like trims) I'm just saving for later.

You know what. While I was writing these lines I was thinking "Hm, what will his answer be. Probably that it is too early to crit" :p
I'll write down, you don't want aesthetical as of now ;)
But no theme is easy to detail. Especially not egypt, if you want to make something good. Don't step in that trap :p

On another note: THIS IS WHAT YOU NEED :D

It's true nothing is easy to detail, but I do find Egypt easier than the alpine or desert themes, for the most part.

I'll think about your suggestion for the rock. It may affect class balance too much.

instead of the rock, there should be an invincible HHH chained on the cp killing everyone that tries to cap. maybe blocked off with an invisible brush or something

The HHH doesen't work outside of mann manor anymore. Only during the halloween event it works.
