So, I went to pre-order Assassins Creed brotherhood, due to it sucking on PC ad 360 not having a worthwhile version of steam, and I noticed somethng: the price is same as always, about ~$110 AU. I forget the exact price, and although I'm pretty sure it was about AU $119, I may have been wrong, but I know it was $110 plus. Now, I was just thinking back to a chat I had, and correct me if I'm wrong, but in the US, games are more like $80 US, or something, right? At amazon, It's US $60 when new, and I know for a fact that the retailers HATE competition with lower prices than them, and that's the #1 reason why games on steam that are also in retailers are so F#&%ing expensive.

So, AU $110 VS US$80? That doesn't sound THAT unreasonable, until you realise that the exchange rate hasn't been that shitty for AGES. Take a look at what it is right now.

Any chance that someone could confirm the average retail price in the USA, and maybe the UK as well? I know they agree on a price and don't adjust it for exchange rates, but this looks effing ridiculous.

Here in the UK, it's:
360: ~£40
PC: £30

USA can't really help it if the aussie dollar fluctuates so sporadically. It's not like stores can just up and lower the price willy nilly.

Consider it service charge for them having to brave sharks, spiders and snakes to get it to you.

It's usually $60 stateside, more than that, and it becomes exorbitant. Might be a service charge for having to go through that draconian rating system you guys got down there. Or its grazr's idea.

Except there's been all of about ~5 games that have been banned. Most of the time, we get the exact same content everyone else does. And to be fair, while I disagree with the ratings system, I can see why they would ban L4D2.

Also, grazr, as a general rule, it's always been at least a 70% ratio, if not higher, and I remember the days when a new release was ~$50 (silver version, anyone?). Games used to be WAY cheaper. (I'm assuming you're kidding about the snakes etc, and not just an idiot, by the way)

As we all know, Australia was first used as an outdoor prison for people who slit throats and stole purses on english streets and the descendants of the people who were robbed and stabbed intend to take revenge by stapling an arbitrary number of months onto the release date and an absurd price tag onto all games released into Australia
It's always been this bad, and it's just more noticable now that the exchange rate is almost even.
P.S. No our dollar doesn't fluctuate much, it's just that we survived the recession.

So buy them off steam? Steam in my experience (Except for CoD games) has always been super cheap compared to retail stores. Even more now that our dollar is worth more.
I don't even like buying physical games when I can get them on steam anymore. I love steam. Let the 360, PS3 and non-steamers pay extra for their games.

Assassins creed series: VERY well known for being EXTRA stable on steam, and PC in general. I share your sentiment on the digitisation of games, and that's what I almost always do (I borrowed my brother's 360 just so I could get this, he lives ~30 K's away, that'd be maybe 20 miles, I think) but let's face it, Assassin's Creed sucks on PC. And, as I mentioned, there's no steam on 360, not to mention keyboard-ised console controls ALWAYS suck.

Also, this is kinda pointless, seeing as how anyone who knows how to click "Country" and set it to somewhere else, then buy off the US/UK website with a non-region-specific credit-card can get it at UK/US prices anyways. It's how I got L4D2 uncensored (also, it's how I got 2 bill's hats, due to getting a refund, although they conveniently got turned into one, before trading was implemented).

It's funny you should mention video games costing $80.

Funny because that studio is out of business.
