About to go on a tangent, prepare for a tl;dnr, and a critical hit from the wall of text.
So I was at Borders today and my aunt and a lady randomly show up. Me and my brother usually go there to lounge and chat with friends, like gentlemen.
My aunt as a job tutors college students in how to work with Dreamweaver and make sites in notepad, and that sort of stuff. So I sat down and started chatting with them, we talked about how we all are (or went to) Wake Technical Community College. Now I'm not proud of going to a community college, but it's the only school that offers "Simulation & Game Development". I'm majoring in that to become a level designer, currently 22 years old. I mentioned that I'm wanting to be a level designer and she then told me that she lives beside a guy who works at Epic Games. I was like "wow man, that's freaking awesome!". I live in Apex, North Carolina and Epic Games is in Cary. For those unaware (most are, or should be), it's ten miles away from where I reside.
She told me that he's a concept artist for the level designers. Anyways, long story short, she said she'd pass my contact info over to him and he may talk with me.
If all goes well, I can show him my Team Fortress 2 map that I've been working on for about a year or so now (on and off), and perhaps he could be a guest speaker for my Photoshop class. :)

Wish me luck stuff.

I may but I know people are very anal about if a map doesn't follow the unofficial community guidelines for mapping, so I haven't really brought my map up. I also haven't published my map for testing and criticism because I'm not at that point yet where I can take the constructive criticism. This map I've been working on is for myself, and a server I attend and anyone else who enjoyed the Quake 3 days. It's made out of a nostalgic feel, with a more gothic satanic look. I am not a satanist, or gothic emo. :p There are probably some sort of rules that say a brush face should not extend past the wall for some sort of reason, or it should all be on the grid or what not but from my point of view, if it works in game then it works.
As of right now, the map is a bit empty. I'm working on finishing rooms and adding detail. I'll then do some beta testing and find out where I should put obstacles for cover, and engineer placements and the such.

It's a bit of a taboo (at least for me) to release a map in vmf format instead of the rendered bsp because people can steal your work, but here is an older version. About ten hours more of content has been put into this. Mostly detail.

If you download this, I expect you to know where to place the right files.

Well usually you "release" the map as a .bsp (actually all the time).
Gameday for an alpha map would mostly be to see if the gameplay and layout is okay, but seeing as this map isn't really designed for use in TF2, both stylistically and functionally, it might not be a good idea to have everyone play it.

(also, you should upload your map files to the site's built-in downloads section, or use dropbox.)

This map will feature the following intended gametypes:
Instagib, Freeze Tag, Team Death Match, Capture the Flag, King of the Hill, Pay Load, and Control Point.

After this map is completed, I hope to work on a Left 4 Dead 2 map which. I want to remake a few Quake 1 maps for L4D2.
I feel like a fish out of sea.

IMO, quake is too fast-paced to be easily converted to a tf2/l4d map..

Perhaps your right, it is a very fast paced game. Although, I'm setting up these maps to scale to a TF2-friendly environment. Gametypes like Instagib and Freeze Tag are fairly fast pased as well. I will be pakratting custom weapon and CTF flag models with the map as well. Probably the sniper rifle; I would like to get a Quake 3 railgun to replace it.

Speak of the devil lol.
Are you doing Simulation & Game Development? I'm taking a 3D modeling class this spring, along with Art for Games and SGD Design.
I'm Graham by the way, just so ya know if we ever see each other. I have class tomorrow at 12:30, an English 111 class.
