Okay, so I'm making a map, and I'm trying to line two blocks up exactly. Now, I've been able to do this before with success, but for some reason, it's not working this time, and I would really like to know if there is some trick to getting it to work.

Do you have the grid disabled? At the lower-right-most corner of Hammer there's a bit of text reading "Snap: [On/Off] Grid: [#]". If it says "Snap: Off" press Shift+W to turn it on. No conceivable reason why brushes won't line up once you have the grid on, unless they're a freakish impossible shape or the grid is set to too small a size, in which case you may have other, bigger problems you should first address with them besides. ;)

EDIT: Whoa dang, Ninjar'd

If you grid is small but you're zoomed out it'll be hard to push things together unless you zoom back in or make the grid big.

Another related issue that happens: Enlarging brushwork using the tool in most cases produces stuff after the comma in sizes and what makes them go "off grid"
