Even though I have nothing to do with maptesting, this is seriously awesome in so many ways, for you guys, dying for feedback. Brilliant great job, I'd say.

You have no idea. Ingame i might only hear 3-5 worth while comments probably also drowned out by static, and because i also wont know where a player is when they are made it's difficult to deduce what they are talking about without faffing around with the demo for nearly an hour.

After testing this plugin in the server i noticed i had 25 annotations in my map that were pretty much all helpful, compare that to the zero comments in my map thread since my last release a month ago or 2 or 3 obvious comments a map might get in game like "oh, missing texture" or "no cubes". It's amazing.

Yay. I made a suggestion/wish for something very similar to this ages ago, and I'm pleased to see there's now something like it :D

I like this. There are people who just like to point out things in chat so this is really useful for them and for the mapper.

But I hope that some people could still write feedback on forums too. It is always nice to have good, well explained feedback on forums too.

Feedback on the topics themselves are still neeeded for gameplay experiences or exquisite situations. This is awesome asa replacement to that hard work of taking the screenshots, uploading them and then taking care to remember everything we saw when posting them.

Plugin update:
  • Fixed a memory leak in the plugin, sorry if your map didn't get any feedback because of this.
  • Server Moderators (users with the RCON flag) can now delete annotations from within game as well as the map author
  • Added !fb as an alias for !feedback
  • Fixed an issue with UTF-8 Characters

It's a server plugin. Which means it's probably only being run on TF2maps.net servers and gamemaster's servers. Atleast at the moment, until Geit says otherwise. We fortunately also have the web url/hosting to compliment this feature.

My only suggestion is that there is a link to the dev thread somewhere in the feedback area. Otherwise a lot better than I thought it was going to be before it was released.

At the moment, we can't go about handing out the plugin due to the nature of the GPL (You must distribute the exact source used to compile - Including SQL details) - and seeing as the annotation plugin is directly linked the the forums at the moment, it would be stupid to release those details. We will be working on a solution to this, probably.

Maybe I'm being stupid, but is there a way to look at annotations on your map on your own computer?

At the moment you must use the web panel, I'm looking into a more refined system that allows you to view them locally now.

My only suggestion is that there is a link to the dev thread somewhere in the feedback area. Otherwise a lot better than I thought it was going to be before it was released.

This is supported, but not currently implemented, we'll be implementing it soon.

I've left some feedback on your feedback plugin over at alliedmods.

For those here who might be interested:

Do you think you could incorporate multiple lines into the annotations, making a line character limit. If this isn't a hard coded annotation limit. Some sentences can be pretty long and for those without widescreen monitors it's difficult to locate the source of an annotation when it's flittering about from monitor edge to monitor edge.

Very sexy theme. Anwyay to make it automaticly sign me in though? And how would one add an image to their map? Not that that really bothers me seeing as there's going to be a new page for each version.

Perhaps then each map could have its own 'folder' with different versions in each? Would minimise the HUGE list of maps, most of which need an image.

And one final thing, any point having the Valve maps on there? I'm guessing it takes a list of maps straight from the server but it's a little pointless unless Valve decided to look at it to see their many mapping mistakes...

Nope, we have to redirect you to steam to login, you could always use some automatic login program though to save you entering the password every time.

I'll see if I can do something similar to events called groups.

Valve maps do not accept annotations. :3

Unfortunately Valve hasn't implemented support for that, so I can't do anything about it right now, I'll be asking them to add in support for it soon.

I don't know if someone has suggested this but i would like to have feedback command that sends feedback only to the site instead making annotation and then sending it to the site. (Command could be !genralfeedback or something like that)

Sometimes i have feedback or compliments on map that really don't need any annotations and i would like to send them without taking spot for more important annotation or just generally taking space for other people annotations.

Updates:
  • Moved webpanel to use only http://feedback.tf2maps.net
  • Fixed session data bugs related to previous change.
  • It is now possible to download a VMF containing all the annotations for your map, you must be logged in to use this feature
  • Added an advertisement about feedback that shows at the start of every map with an author that is allowing annotations
  • Added !generalfeedback and !gf which provides feedback without a location
  • Added !feedbackhelp and !fh which explains the commands

Alright lets all help Geit make this thing popular!

If you want to inform other communities about this plugin simply make a thread with the title:

Help the mappers out - Give a little feedback!

Then paste this into the message box:

Help the mappers out - Give a little feedback.

Always had that nagging little irk with a map that no one else has noticed? Ever seen something that just doesn't fit in the map? Don't like the way that last round played out? - Always wanted to report it but didn't know how? - Well now it's easy special thanks to the Feedback Plugin.

The Map Feedback plugin is a unique way to give your feedback currently available on TF2Maps.net Servers and has a few fairly simple commands:
  • !feedback or !fb - Makes an annotation where you are looking to provide targeted feedback to the map author
  • !generalfeedback or !gf - Provides general feedback with no location to the map author
  • !deleteannotation or !da - delete annotation if you're the map author
  • !toggleannotations or !ta - Toggles whether you can see annotations or not
All the feedback made can be seen in game, it looks kind of like this:
o7s6.png

Or it can all be viewed through the fancy webpanel built by Geit and themed by Nineaxis found here: http://feedback.tf2maps.net

Simple.

Server owners that feel they can run this and have a community that makes frequent contributions to the mapping community should contact Geit: http://steamcommunity.com/id/geity

I have already posted a thread on these forums:

If you belong to a forum that supports custom maps please make a thread for this, then post a link to it in this thread so Geit can easily get feedback and address issues with the plugin!

Lastly if you want to join a forum to post the thread refer to this list for custom friendly communities.
