Same thing I did with my stuff 5~ days ago, all gone thanks to "partition magic" kind of bull program that just crashed magically along with my partition.
Maybe should buy a pendrive just for maps...

I bet dropbox hates you peple that have your VMFs in dropbox. Creating another 3-10 MB file every minute. That has to be saved for a month. Times two for the VMX. And the BSP too.

I did this too not to long ago while updating to Win7.

Had a rar file with all my game data, music, and personal files and a second rar with my sdkcontent backup-ed. Forgot to merge them and lost everything.

Thought all was lost then I started researching ways to get it back and found the EASEUS recovery tool. Wasn't perfect as most of the files were overwritten though.

Whats worse is when I opened the .vmf with the recovery tool I could see the chunks that had overwritten content on them, like a crappy game I installed, went over the vmf which (the parts that I could read) showed the install directory of the game. Still found/recovered 70%, much better than 100% I'll say.

Doesn't Hammer create a backup folder?

C:\HammerAutosave on my comp

It's only the autosave files. So not all the maps are in there. I'd be surprised if there were more than a few files (of unfinished maps) in there, unless you had an insane save-rate set? :p

Well that sucks. I feel your pain.

On the bright side, you can only make better maps now anyway, right ?
