I have been interested in how all of this got started for a while now, I have looked a a few threads on this subject but have found a lot of things missing. My hopes are that people can help fill in those gaps for me.
So if your a mod if you want to share how you came to be a mod and what you do now as a mod, i would love to know what everyone does now and did in the past. If you are an old timer i am interested in what it was like way back in regards to how the forum, gamedays, and the chat worked. (this does not have to be very far back, i have not been here very long) If you are a new user i would love to know how you came to be here, and what you think about tf2m so far.
Thanks

Not only that, but it was uphill both ways through a snow theme that we had to make ourselves!

i used to make (terrible) maps for day of defeat. when tf2 came out, i thought it would be neat to review or feature new maps for tf2, so i setup a blog about it. i started getting (some nasty) comments on how dumb and poor i was that i could not setup a forum for users.

i slept on it and figured a forum would make sense to have discussion. the site slowly started turning towards mapping and mapping theory. i noticed ID had started a steam group about mapping on the SPUF forums, so i messaged him about the forum, and he directed his group here, giving the site its biggest growth spurt so far.

djive soon joined and offered to help me manage the site since he had some experience with a good amount of past communities. jumped on the opportunity and swamped him with tasks.

once the forum became a little active, i thought it would be a good time to start paying out the wazoo for software, so purchase I a (expensive!) vBulletin licence and switched our forum software to vbulletin.

chaos ensued for a while during the transfer, and some people lost their accounts, but all was soon ok.

more people joined. the big names joined around this time, Youme, Mangy, and others. the site soon spread through word of mouth, google searches, linking, etc.

during this time, almost EVERYDAY, i was tinkering with the site in some way or another. the site grew so fast some months, that i had to keep moving the site from host to host. some would boot me for cpu usage, while others would boot me for running out of disk space.

finally, i found a good stable host with decent hardware and allotments, so we've been there since.

Summer always seems to bring in fresh waves of kiddie winks.

I must have stumbled here from interlopers several years ago. Doing a mixture of teaching and learning. I had moved from TFC to DoD and took up mapping for that game and joined a DoD Clan at the same time. I eventually came to help run their server which was a personal benefit to getting my maps tested, though a single server with only a hand full of custom maps was nothing like what we have here, now.

The community benefitted from the knowledge of individuals like A Boojum Snark, Brandished, Pseudo, Shmitz and Spaceweasels; who all (presumable) used the software since pre-Source. Of which only one remains, though we see Pseudo popping in now and then.

I remember my first ever game day on one of VFIG's maps. Gamedays were special events back then usually only once a month.
