You're all making yourselves histerical. Someone uninvolved makes a wild statement and suddenly everyone shits their pants. You're all acting like if a mistake is made it can't be resolved. Given the amount of effort and time everyone's put into this i think it goes without saying the mods will do everything to get the right map in; save the crucifiction until after the deed. Because all this flying shit isn't helping anyone and is antagonising a panic.

Hysterical? Panic? Have you read a word of what I said? You're the one blowing it out of proportion because I've never taken this to the level you are claiming I have.

I guess I'd better stop saying anything about important issues because everyone will assume I'm typing it with tears in my eyes, angrily smashing at the keyboard while emo music plays and I cut myself while throwing darts at a photo of zpq.

I don't do that.

I'm pretty much done arguing now, but I'll have you know I am not angry at the people running the contest. I really don't want to leave such an impression.

You did say

I'm baffled that zpq is still a moderator.

That's pretty "hysterical."

I think it's kind of a good thing zpq is staying out of this. The drama around here is palpable. (I'm honestly laughing as a read this thread, but maybe it's because I didn't make a map and don't understand. Still, the dramatics around here are glorious.)

It's not like Valve isn't used to having things a few hours later than the deadline.

I understand that people want to know what exactly is going on because it's work of several months, and you don't want that to have no chance simply because of submitting error, but please, have some faith. I'm pretty sure everyone here is doing the best they can. As long as you followed all the rules, I'm quite sure that there won't be a problem with your submissions.

The only thing I'm wondering is why there couldn't just have been a list of download links from the threads sent to Valve..?

If it's taking so long to upload 2 gb of maps, then what's wrong with emailing them the links to the maps to download separately?

The only thing I'm wondering is why there couldn't just have been a list of download links from the threads sent to Valve..?

That's exactly what I'm asking. What's wrong with that? There's a lot of effort going into mashing large files and uploading them...that's just silly. Sure, it means someone over at Valve is going to have to download them each and then distribute them, but it's not like they're helpless.

I spose it stops people from doing stealth updates to their entries if it takes Valve a week to actually start looking at em.

Maybe the mods could update the links in the locked upload thread?

As PC madness said people could then do stealth updates which takes me back to the point I was making before that maybe for future comps you could specify an upload service that uses unique links..

Maybe in future contests, the entries can be burned to a DVD and mailed in to Valve? Might be faster and less headache than having to upload everything slowly and choke your internet connection for days on end.

Did you even read your own definition?
"an uncontrollable outburst of emotion or fear, often characterized by irrationality, laughter, weeping, etc. "
I fail to see how any of that applies to the statement you quoted.

He asked why a guy is still a mod just because of a contest. Maybe it's in the loose definition of hysterical, but such a statement that obviously is meant to make someone upset is in that category for me. It's like calling for blood sacrifice because someone forgot to feed the cat.

"Just because of a contest"
There aren't a lot of things mods here have to do, and contest management is one of the big ones and definitely the most PR-centric one. If there is anything to be fired over that isn't blatant abuse of powers, I'd say it's contest mismanagement.

Note: I am playing devil's advocate here because that's what I do. I do not feel he needs to be fired for whatever he did or didn't do. My statement about the unread PMs was in jest too, I assumed he had opened the inbox, a bunch of other threads, took the pic and posted it, and by the time I replied he had probably read them. I just felt like poking fun.

Maybe I need to state the meaning of my posts once more, because it is apparently very hard for people to understand, despite my numerous posts after my first one, that I am not hysterical or trying to flame anyone. These are ideas that you are getting from your own heads.

First of all I don't want to blame it on my lack of sleep or anything (well it was 2am or something), but I don't always watch my wording very well at those points in time. Probably a terrible excuse, I know, so let's just say - I don't always think before I type. And what I didn't think about was that my rather negatively charged wording would lead people to believe I wanted zpq fired (Please read it once more and you may notice that I did not literally say this). I also didn't consider that this would probably hurt zpq. This is a rather strange occurance as I usually try to speak in a friendly manner.

I apologize for sounding like a jackass to you, zpq. For a slightly better worded message, look three posts later. Everyone seems to have missed this, but to summarize - I never wanted anyone to be hurt, rather I was concerned about how the contest was treated after reading the preceding pages. I guess I misunderstood it a lot, but I hope you all can see where I come from, and my point still remains; You appeared untrustworthy to me, and if that is the case for other people, that may be something you need to improve on.

Anyway, it's unbelievable that I'm writing a four paragraph post for such a minor thing and I'd like to get this over with. But my reputation as a relatively nice guy is something I value highly, so I hope we can all in the future learn to read beyond the first sentence of a ranting post, and also look at the ones where I explain my behavior. Looking at you, Leminnes. I really don't like such grave accusations.

Can we all be friends now?

Does this mean they're submitted?

Yes

Very well written response. I honestly don't think your initial post was that "minor" but I see where you're coming from, and do wish you had worded it differently initially. Either way, it SEEMS as though everything has been worked out and the maps have been submitted. And now God rests for 3 days.

Hopefully that means the next contest starts in 3 days. :p

But good luck to everyone who entered! Sucks only one person gets to be a winner, but at the same time, everyone sort of won, what with the new content created for this. Saharan desert, Halloween expansion, SPACE, vineyard... It is good time to be mapper!
