So I made a tiberium plant model for my cp_hourglass map.

I am now trying to make it look a bit better. The first screenshot is of the first try at making the model.
The 2 other screenshots are of the model with $translucent. The alpha is mapped so that only the crystal is translucent. However, as you can see, the 'trunk' of the plant can be seen through. However, it is not translucent when there is nothing behind it, it is not glass. It can be viewed through however, when there is something behind it.

Now I know that tf2 models with glass in them always use 2 seperate models. 1 frame model and 1 glass model to make 1 door. Is this because what I am experiencing with my model cannot be handeld bij source, or is there a way around this?

So, should I make 1 tiberium crystal model and 1 tiberium 'trunk' model, or can it be done with 1 model wich is only partly translucent?

Looks interesting, but I've only played C&C 95 :D
I think the translucency should be 65-80% if it is translucent.

Also the brown rim things could be a bit thinner.

It looks good so far.

You can always get multiple surface properties on one model, the process for doing this is different from software to software, however. What are you using?

I'd also suggest instead of using translucent, you use "$additive" "1". It brightens up based on the diffuse color, instead of just being see-through. And it might help to add a specular surface too, since they're crystals.

The thread was necro bumped. So I doubt the creator even wishes to change it...
