Ah, for some reason i was under the impression you told people not to contact you over the artpass because you weren't interested/busy. Then you and YM joined forces and suddenly LOADSA PROPS FOR ONE PERSON.

But more over i was expressing my dissapointment in the lack of interest from other modellers. I can't see why TF2 doesn't have more people like yourself. You'd think people went where there was demand, not to mention that the game is stylistically different from most and be a great change from all the muddy gritty realistic stuff everyone seems to be into.

You know what's gonna suck? The complaints about the filesize.

There will be none. Either it wins, or the map will never be played. So no complaints.

Grazr, There was a thread either this contest or last, either started by or on behalf of, Rexy that was along the lines of "Please be highly specific about what you want, and be helpful with info" etc so there weren't hundreds of PMs flying around like "can you make a boat" or "can you make a tree" and nothing more.

That may be what you're thinking of?

Grazr, maybe we should have modeling classes here at TF2M? Hammer seems to be a gateway drug to other kinds of game development.

Now you're just saying that because Hoodoo went official, aren't you? :p

No, I'm saying that because that is exactly what will happen. Either I win and there are no filesize complaints except from those who steam downloads slow for, or I don't win and don't bother trying to get it played, since no one will want to. ("Why download one when there is an official one" they will say)

This is true, YM and JoshuaC have started learning modelling programs and i'd like to do the same at some point. Both of them have however completed map projects that have even gone official, so i'd like to atleast finish my 2 current mapping projects, excluding the artpass, before trying to learn them. They are nearly finished so that should be sooner rather than later. It's a matter of getting finished work into a portfolio (i have a lot of work unfinished as i lacked resolve due to other commitments).

But i am sure there are plenty of tutorials out there... not to mention a couple in the tutorial section here. It's just a matter of free time for those moving from Hammer and level design into modelling.

Though since we (TF2maps) have that live video channel it is something maybe worth organising in future. But i'm kinda throwing this thread off topic with this tangent discussion. Definately a discussion for another time.

Well now 3dsmax and in fact all other autodesk software is now free for students, there may be a flood of new modelers!

I plan to use this soon, however my school mail is messed up at the moment >:

Our school is a bit technologically retarded, as in they have technical knowledge, but they present it in a retarded manner. So I have no idea how to get into the school mail that receives outside emails, only internal emails :(

It may not like the email addy you've put in since they're looking for student email addresses, if your school gives out weird ones it might not like it

I just accidentally compiled the entire map with final settings instead of just the final point (oops!) so you may be getting some more screenshots tonight.

And yeah It's almost certain that the autodesk license says student versions are limited to non-commercial uses only, but I didn't look.

This is all fine and dandy for those wanting to learn, but I'm pretty sure there's certain rules you must follow. Don't they say that you can't make money off the things you make in the student versions?

You must have an active student email account that they will confirm is allowable to use their service and you cannot make any profit off of the student software.
