Hey ,

I play spy alot, and in the last week ive noticed an increased number of times I've been blown up or shot at while cloaked/invisible...

that is.. im fully cloaked.. running around a corner over top of some demoman's sticky bombs.. and BLAM he sets them off as i run over them..

I know this can happen occasionally.. and likely more often when your running in at the same time as an assault incoming from your other team mates as well..

but its been more frequent then I would of otherwise thought...

so i wonder.. is there a new exploit or cheat floatin around allowing others to see cloaked spies?

perhapse a video graphics glitch to make the spy more visible?...

frustrating!

It wouldn't surprise me one bit if there was BUT - the more players you have in a server and the closer the quarters, that much harder for a cloaked spy to get past the enemy stronghold. Anytime you bump an enemy or a stray bullet hits you, they see a glimmer of your cloak and thus know there is a spy. Players are getting better and better about guessing where you are going next and catching that cloak outline to know who you are and where you're likely going to go.

I wouldn't chalk it up to cheats just yet. I'm sure for every person that is cheating when they catch you, there's at least another 10 who aren't.

Also remember to never bump into any walls or other objects, that sets off your cloak too. but i have noticed some poeple that seem to be able to see my stealth even when i was cloaked in the middle of a large area not touching anything or moving. I think there may be a cheat about it.

The Invisibilty is a just a vtf file, so you could theoretically change it to pure white or something, killing the invisibilty in it's entirety.

trypto , yea but VAC servers pick up on altered file sizes/dates etc..
so i wouldnt think it'd be a simple material/shader swap

not like the old Call of Duty ones used to be hehe

but i dont know.. just seems to be happening more in the last week for me to notice the difference in my typical gameplay

Uh I'm pretty sure you only show up when you bump into an enemy.

to add to this, Remember the release of pl_goldrush Nark on our TF2Maps.net server? There was a demo player who you were getting PISSED at for the exact same reason...

I dont know, there may be a *hack* out there

If you're someones nemesis, the icon shows up above their head even if they're cloaked. This may have been fixed since the last time I saw it, though.

I was in a clan game on Goldrush and noticed this, repeatedly. The demo was piping the corner up above the 2-2 path, and every time I'd pop around the corner completely invisible he'd det. Happened about 4 times. It seemed really fishy, to say the least. I can understand getting hit by random red/blue spam, but he wouldn't det his pipes on coincidence that many times when I'm right there.

it takes a lot longer than you realise to become fully invisible after right clicking. You need to wait until your visible arms become completely covered in camo. Takes about 3 seconds after right clicking. Otherwise you will only be partly invisible.

I have killed tons of spies that run around corners about 1/10th of a second after right clicking. e.

I went invisible about 5 seconds before I went around.

VAC doesnt pick up on any altered material files. Only way for a server to keep everyone at stock material files is to be set at sv_pure 2. Anything less and there are unlimited posibilities for cheats with material files.

Uh skins are simple material swaps, Valve dosen't care about skins. Play on a server with sv_pure on.
There is a wall hack that is a simple skin.

And any smart spy will know about this. This has still happened to me after a good 5 seconds of cloak.

So as of right now, anyone who modifies the vtfs can change all the camo to blue or red, etc

i missed around with some bots the other day and throwing stickies right at a cloaked spy doesn't even make them shimmer. they do bounce off him which looks funny.
also it's not the cloak that takes very long it's the disguise process that takes the longest.
i myself have been blown up by demos that seem to know i am sneaking over their stickies.
one thing to remember is even when you are cloaked your feet still make noise. this isn't normally heard when a lot of stuff is going on and isn't likely how the demo is detecting you.

The closest thing i've seen to a material swap exploit was some cheap console command exploit regarding shaders or particle effect volumes that turned a spy black when cloaked, i think it was a console command, that or a shader alternative. Only problem was the spy disguise/cloak animation wasn't played or something and turned the spy literally completely invisible, so for a good 3 seconds before and after he was still invisible, but when cloaked he appeared pure black.

Watched a bunch of scouts running around in a vid sounding awefully impressed with themselves but i wasn't that impressed. Since the player seemed more at a deficit than he was before. The spy was running around cloaking and disguising himself and every now and then he disappeared, suddenly appeared black and then dissappeared before suddenly appearing normal again. Is probably on youtube somewhere, there seems to be a whole load of xbox exploits being published there. Like breaking the spawn doors on well and sniping through the first spawn gates on dustbowl.

I'll never get why some people can't simply be content with the game and just play it like everyone else. I saw someone with a speed hack the other day as well.. kept capping the flag on 2fort in like 5 seconds (untill i built a sentry in the flag room :p).. should have got a demo really, there were 6 other clan players present who were making the funniest comments..

--- Forget This ---

Found them. I remember coming across them when trying to reskin the spy's pistol to have a cross insignia and an ivory handle... anyways:

GCF Scape -> team fortress 2 materials.gcf -> tf -> materials -> HUD -> "class_XXXX_cloak and" "class_XXXX_halfcloak" and "class_XXXX_tint"

XXXX replaced with classname and then team color.

BTW: I haven't checked the "tint" one, but I assumed that it was related, however assumption isn't always a good thing.

--- Forget to here ---

Actually I just rethought this... I don't think this is correct, anyone is free to try it. I'm gunna dig somemore to see. I can't actually test this, so I'm assuming, and assumption is bad.

There is a cheat on sv_pure 0 servers, and I play a lot spy too (my most played class) and most of the time they kill you legal, but there are sometimes you feel there's something strange on it, and maybe one of those is cheating. It's rare to find a cheater but there will always be.
