See through floors/walls? and a couple questions on transparent orbs and other things

In my swbf2 map, i have certain areas in my map where if you look at a wall in a certain way, a chunk of it seems to disappear, revealing "the abyss" lol.

All u have to do is check out my latest map and one main one is in the blue hanger room upstairs in the spytech room. just look around a bit and its on the floor.

Also, how do you compile custom textures/models into the map? (i need to do this for a gameday.) i know i will need pakrat, but does anybody have a tutorial or step by step instructions on how to do this?
EDIT: got this part thanks, still need help on the other bits tho

And lastly, I am trying to make a transparent orb that will have a few effects inside it, like lasers, smoke, sparks etc.
I already have the transparent texture, which took me a while to find a tutorial on XD. But the problem is, when i make a sphere, even a hollowed out sphere, you can see through it to the wall, but you can't see the effects inside it. Any ideas on how to fix this? (at first i tried making a transparent orb sprite, but it turned out horribly wrong XD)
