The idea is that these turbines were built in the 50s and not maintained very well- the blades have many large holes and haphazard patches of metal. Where the larger gaps are wooden ribbing is visible.

I need each blade to be 128x512, and the total height to be near 1500. In hammer units, of course.

one day i thought i could make this, but i was wrong. Well you can ask somebody in TF2mappers who knows how to make models

I remember there was a very simple model of this made for GMod's "spacebuild" gamemode a long time ago...

Make the post and the blades as a brush, and tie the blades to a func_rotating.

That should work.

Also the blades might have to be like a func_brush or something too.

You could make a basic and possibly ugly brushwork version by using a func_rotating workaround. There are around 3 tutorials to make a working rotator on tf2m.

It would probably look better as a model as well as being better animated, but it seems most of the modelers have disapeared to the artpass maps...

I know about the func_rot workarounds, and I've even created my own giant fans before, but a model would look so much nicer...

I could try. I have yet to make a model for someone else. It probably wouldn't be dro-dead gorgeous and I don't know how to animate it, but I could try.

I went ahead and made this mockup in my map to get the idea of what I want. I tried to make a video but I suck at source recorder. Anyway, if it helps for animating, the speed for this one was 10 degrees per second (That's 36 seconds for a complete rotation)

Basically I want it to be as bulky and intimidating as possible :D

Have you any specific dimensions for this? Or just a general hooge size?

Make 2 models. One for the base/poll, and another one for the blades.

Sorry for the hooge image.

Need to bake AO, add some detail on the main body, and, of course, texture properly. The fan and base are two separate models until I learn how to animate.

Base (HU): 235x72x729
Turbine blade length: ~360 HU

Awesome, thanks! Request for texturing: make it grey and red-painted metal, not bright white like modern ones.

a quick blocking ... nothing concrete yet.
I see that Seba started something but it's been a month and no forward movement i guess means he's shelved it?

Anyhoo, i'll take a stab at this, looks interesting.
You have a level built for this? How far along is it?

The map is still in design phase.

I appreciate it UGLY but I've actually gotten a friend of mine to start working on this. I don't need someone to make it now after all, hah. If I don't like what my friend comes up with, though, I'll contact you-- I like your models. :)
