Contest showcase video

OK, so, the contest is coming to a close, and it seems about time for me to start producing another showcase video. I have improved my skills since the last one, and I promise that the music will be better. People complained that last time, most of the smoothing I had done was a glorified fly through of the map. They suggested that I should focus on a certain landmark in each map. However, I have never seen your map before, never played on it enough. I would hate to make a showcase video only to have someone complain that I didnt show off a part of their map that they liked. So, I will let you choose what portion of the map you want to show off.

My music is exactly 4:00 minutes, so assuming about 25 people are entering, each person get a 10 second portion. You MUST post in this thread if you want your entry in the showcase video.

Here is how it will work; I will do an example for my entry:
Map Name: Artpass_grimtuesday
Map download: [insert link to bsp here]
Landmark 1: Around rocket
Area on map: Point C
Landmark 2: Satellite manufacturing
Area on map: Point B sidebuilding

You must post in this thread by 10 PM EST, Monday September 27 (2 days after the contest ends) if you want your map in the showcase video. I will randomize the order, so it really doesnt matter if you post now or later. I just wanted to throw this up to let people think about it, and if anyone is already done, they can feel free to post! Any questions?

Hmmm. Should be something by Pendulum :p

That's quite a nice TF2-ey tune though.

First off drp can't feature any video that uses copyrighted music. Thats why jack had to redo his.

Second don't limit yourself so dam much. You are in no way tied to one song and its easy to weave in more then one so people are not limited to 10 seconds of screen time.

Lastly the hole "You MUST post in this thread if you want your entry in the showcase video." is dumb because it will end up cutting out the people who only read some threads and miss this one. Your better off putting them in the video anyway with what you think is right.

Thanks for the heads up.

Does anyone else know of any songs like that that are open source, or where Jack got his sign from?

I wont be limited, but im just trying to plan ahead. Il definatly be flexible depending oh how many of few people enter.

I should also change this to more of a "special request thread" so that, sure you will be in the video, but you might not be where or what you want to.

I'm not sure as far as soundtracks go, if you're desperate you can go to killertracks.org or just look up some free unlicensed 40s swing :p

Also, as far as putting this whole video together, I think that because the map is (essentially) the same in all the 10 second segments, I would suggest trying something where you show off major sections of the map, and in one camera movement switch between the different maps, or at least integrate that into the video :)

TF2 music itself is always suitable and legal(-ish. valve wouldn't care anyway)! Another option would be to talk to Penguin and see if he has time to make a custom song for it. (or maybe even have penguin do a remix of a tf2 song, which would be like, you know, an artpass'd song. /awesomeface)

Know what would be (alot of work but) really awesome?

If you could get people to get shots of their map from the same camera positions (or at least as close as they can get) as the raw map video (on the contest page) and then sequence them right so as the camera moves around you get a slew of different maps.

It wouldn't show off some maps very well, but the result would look impressive.

I think that's what absurdistof was getting it. It would be awesome but I think incredibly time consuming and as you said, some people are only going to get a small show off sequence of a wall or two.

Plus the original artpass video is only 1 minute long. That's not going to fit many maps into it for very long.

4 minutes is too long. If Im some randomer who just wants a quick overview of what the maps look like I want to do it in less than 2 minutes, maybe even shorter. And I wouldnt say you need more than like 5 seconds per map anyway, considering youre only gonna show a landmark or a short bit of the map anyway, and If they like it, they can go and make an effort and actually download the map :O

Also, this isnt public vote anyway (or?), so you dont need a huge video promoting the entire thing in my opinion

Nah, it's nice to have the community as a whole get a little excited about this. I don't think a lot of people outside of TF2Maps even remember this exists :bored:

This one is the same song that Jack did, but by the original artist, instead of a cover.

An awesome suite, tons of songs in it would work, especialy the ones by Benny Goodman

Thats all i've got for now. All these songs are under some area of the CC license, or are public domain. I would really like if some people would tell me which ones they like the most!
