From what I've seen at the various LANs I've been to:

Soda - I know this might be obvious, but it's a staple. Try and pick a few varieties to cover different tastes (a cola, a lemon-lime, an orange maybe, you get the picture)

Fresh Carrots, broccoli, etc and dip - I know, WTF HEALTHY FOOD NEVAR, but seriously, consider it. Crunchy, hella addictive, and clean unless one of your friends is dip-impaired.

^ benefits to both of these being that at most they shouldn't leave more than water on your hands, easily wiped off on a paper towl/shirt/friend/couch/whatever.

Slightly messier stuff:

Pocky, like Konata said, is great. Basically like eating a cookie without getting the chocolate chips all over yourself. Still does crumbs though.

Deviled eggs - These happened once, I have no idea why, but it was freaking amazing. We nom'd the crap out of these, and each one is basically bite size, awesomeness. Does require cooking skillz though.

Little Pretzel sticks, Pocky's western cousin. Clean, tastes good, but will make you thirsty as hell.

Don'ts:

Ice cream - it may be that you guys are better eaters than we usually are, but someone always manages to get this on their hands and fuck up whatever they're using

Chips - greasy, usually covered in some sort of flavoring. They hate your gear, and will do their best to get in every nook and cranny possible.

Granola/Nature Valley/Chewy bars - Anything in this vein is either horribly sticky, or showers everything in the vicinity in crumbs with every bite. Keyboards hate them.

Get some all-in-one hand-sanitizer/anti-grease wet wipe things and put them next to the controllers. Then eat whatever ;)

I have found the answer. Chilly.
Yes you heard me, CHILLY

Cook it all day, stays nice and warn in the pot, easy to make. You can dip into it, add cheese, sour cream, and the meat is optional. Also, if you forget about it it's good cold!

although, my house only has 1 small bathroom on the groundfloor...might have to reconsider...

@Fireman, I have never been to a *real* lan party (only to ones where my friends raid someone's living room and pub-stomp on CSS servers all night). To be honest, I havn't considered veggies, as most of my friends only eat meat (which is plain strange). Eggs are a good idea though...

Dont wings get a bit messy for gaming?

I use Wine Gums, but I'm all out. And it's kinda hard getting them in the US.

Sushi is the world's greatest gaming food. Miniature shots of fish oil and mercury in a bite size pouch.

Nothing helps your gaming better than just staying properly hydrated with plain old fashioned water.

Starburst are good as well, and don't leave any mess behind!

Mountain dew, cheese puffs, and extra cheesy pizza (Maybe some pepperoni pizza) if your aiming for something else get some good old fashioned tortilla chips with ranch dip, salsa, and mild cheese dip. (Yes I have done this before.)

One of the two original flavors of doritos and still a very popular one is Cooler Ranch. Dipping chips in ranch dip (or even straight ranch salad dressing) results in pretty much the same flavor except better. So I don't see why you think it's so strange.

Honestly though, what's the point in eating while gaming if you're gonna eat crappy stuff for the sake of convenience. You may as well eat dried seaweed when you game.

Just have some napkins lying around. If you need to, use them. It works.

Now call the best local pizza place you know of. Ask for a big ass supreme pizza or two (verbatim). If they have cheese sticks get some of those too. While that's being made and delivered go and pick up some beer. Preferably the cheapest beer you can find, and get a 30-pack or two. Now you're set for your gaming night.
