Hello, and i'm not sure if this belongs here, but this community seems like a intelligent group of people who may be able to help me...even if this isn't mapping related directly. :)

I'm using the Blender SMD importer so i can import character models into blender...the only problem is i cant get the textures to import with them. I cant quite figure out what i'm doing wrong...so if someone who has used blender to open character models could help me out that would be awesome....

Thanks in advance.

Im using version 2.49b, also i just looked over that and was wondering, in it you explain how to decompile a MDL, i was just using the SMDs that were in the sdk_content directory...do i need to go through the process of decompiling the character models or is there an easier way to just pair the texture with the smd already there for me?

In that thread I link to a tutorial all about compiling and decompiling models. You shouldn't need to though. You need to find the corresponding texture in the gcf and place it as a bmp in the same directory as the smd you are importing. Then, when importing select "Static Mesh with Textures". That should work. If it doesn't, open the console window and if it couldn't find the texture, it will tell you where it should go.

ERROR: Expecting image "engineer_red" to be found in same directory as the SMD

I have the extracted texture engineer_red from the GCFs, the only thing i did was turn it from a VTF to a BMP like you said. It was in the same folder as the model.

EDIT: Could is be because i don't have python installed? Static meshes without textures work fine.
