The fins are WAY too small IMO.

The nose should probably also taper to a point more, starting farther down along the body.

@Draco : yeah, I have a version with much bigger fins. The public release will likely have the bigger fins. By Nutomic's request, I'm giving him these smaller ones.

you could try a version with a medium size (or maybe show me the version with the bigger ones again, maybe they just looked so big).

Nutomic PM'd me and let me know he liked the idea of bigger fins too!
So voila! Bigger fins and I've also adjusted the nose cone a wee bit ...

lolz. we got a bunch 'uh fin aficionados in our midst.
I guess this is what goes for nitpicking around here? hehe.
I'll drop the uppermost fins.

@Grim: legal? if you mean if I'd mind anyone using it for the artpass I'd say go for it. I'll have my lawyers contact your lawyers, k?

I'm going to get all rocket science-y on yo ass now...

I don't know what Nutomic had in mind for the theoretical use of the rocket, but judging by the shape, it looks kind of like a cruise missile. In which case you need wings, not those little fins. Here is a tomahawk for instance. If he was going for a nuclear missile though, then the huge model valve have is more accurate, as this image illustrates. The other obvious option is the traditional shape used by solid fuel rockets and amateur rockets. I'm sure you know what I mean. Loooooong cylinder for the body with 4 fins on the very bottom.

With that said, I suggest an adapted nuclear missile design. Elongate the nose cone or even make it into long point, and add 2 sets of 4 fins. One set at the very bottom and one a little beyond half-way to 2/3 up. Also, fins should be what I can only describe as truncated triangles... basically this.

@Mick:

Thanks for your thoughts dude.

The scale of the missile was determined by Nutomic in his request OP. 400u.
The diameter and height are not set in stone - in fact, the model could be enlarged so that it took up the whole diameter of the opening - if one chose to. Pretty easy to do.

I've already pulled the nose cone out to a degree that Nutie and I are happy with while I've also enlarged the fins. Stylistically speaking, i prefer a rounded tip. man, that sounds dirty.

ahem.

I'm still refining the LODs so there's some time left to play with fin shapes a wee bit - i'll give the 'truncated triangle' profile a go.

Cheers!

I have to say that a cruise missile would probably fit much better with the sizing of the model.
That and the fact that the wings on the cruise missile look badass.

Then again, I reckon most people wouldn't recognise it as such and TF2 models were never THAT concerned with realism.

Also, truncated-triangle fins seconded.

Well I'm confused now, are we talkin' diameter here? I'm lookin' at the cruise missile and I don't see any resemblance.

I based the silhouette on an Intercontinental Ballistic Missile.
I thought the resemblance was very close. hmm.

The only variable that's a bit out of whack is the models scale.
Which as we all know is the easiest thing in the world to adjust.

Open my eyes guys - i'm blind.

I was talking about scale.

Think about 400 hammer units in TF2.
The player model is roughly 80 units high, and there's no way that one of these is as high as 5 men. On the other hand, this probably is about 5 men high.

Like the new fins though, they're much better.

Also, since it's taller now I'd consider adding another bracket to the top. Just a thought.
