Question about TF2 Artistic Style

As far as I know, it's based in the 60's, with RED having a separate style than BLU.
(Warm colours - Cold Colours; Organic - Concrete ect.)

I was thinking about a different style, though I was wondering, is a laboratory fit for TF2? It's partly mountain based (avalanche), but also a part "secret base".

Is this fitting?

Completely, there's a subsection of each team that is a technological section, Spytech, which is identical for each base, apart from the colour scheme, check the basements of 2Fort for examples. You could quite easily extend that into a laboratory setting.

It'd mostly be a case of making the rooms larger, and having more Tech situated everywhere.

Other movies and games which you might think of when deciding if the style is right:

  • Austin Powers
  • Evil Genius (Game)
  • Get Smart
  • The Incredibles

Edit: My god, I knew I was forgetting something:
  • No One Lives Forever

Now that you mention it Terr, The Incredibles is a great example. I think the entire theme for TF2 stems from a single poster (30's I think, not 60's ;)). As Jakkarra says, spytech is a neutral theme though (in terms of colours), and a laboratory extension is a logical partner. Grazr has a great guild to base facades and following this theme he has pointed out, I would say that a lab theme could sit behind the spytech. When you are making objects for this (or any for that mater) theme remember what would have been around an the time. Radiation or rockets is a good area, rather than something like bubbling chemical reactions and unfinished dissections.

This would fit perfectly, especially with this colour and art scheme

Be sure to not make your whole map spytech, as the whole theme of TF2 revolves around there being something nefarious going on behind a facade, like the rockets in granary.

Notice that in maps where this doesnt happen, like egypt, or junction (less so, but it has a bit too much spytech) feel kinda weird.

Actually a lot of the spytech is taken right from James Bond

The reason I didn't put down James Bond (but did put down Austin Powers) is that when it comes to spy-tech I think it needs to be campy. (Which not all Bond films were.)

TF2's facades and secret bases are flimsy and overdone, respectively. "Flimsy" in that no visitor would really be taken in by a plywood cow cutout, and overdone in that you have a huge ICBM nestled inside your building.

Slight Bump:

I won't make it spytech all over. It's an alpine theme, and the laboratory will be inside a mountain that you will be able to see in every stage. And there will only be fought in the spytech laboratory in the end stage (it's going to be like cp_dustbowl, 3 stages with 2 caps).
