Forward

This is cp_forward, a linear four control point attack-and-defend map. The project began as a somewhat loose re-imagining of Avanti from TFC. Avanti is Italian for "forward", hence the name. At this point the design has diverged so far from Avanti that barely any resemblance remains.

Wow, this looks really pretty. Althought you might want to hold on with detailing until you get a solid gameplay and it goes beta ;) I can't wait to see how this plays, it looks fun.

Oh, protip: that medium healthpack in the second pic will be annoying, because it's weird to get to and should be placed away from battle-heavy areas.

EDIT: also, try to keep your stairs 8x12 (it looks like you have some 16x24 in there)

Heh, yeah I know. Basically the first part of this map is where I learned to detail, so it's more done in that sense than the rest. If I have to change it around a bit and I lose that work it's no big deal because it was valuable training experience. I also find it helpful to get to an idea of how the final product will look even at the early stages.

The health pack placement is actually intentional. Medium and full health packs are all in places that take make the user vulnerable. Personally I hate it when I just about kill a guy then he manages to run over a big health kit and undoes all my work. In my map there is a trade off for trying to grab health in combat. The idea is to keep combat fast and decisive but still allow the winner to have longevity by healing himself between battles. Testing will determine whether or not I get the effect I was aiming for.

It's been almost five months since the last post, so I figure this could use a bump. The map is still in development and is nearing completion. I've been doing my play-testing with my buddies at CouchAthletics with great success, but I do plan to submit this for a gameday sometime soon to get an alternate perspective on it.
