The problem is, the pic you posted is ALL white. Not patches of red/whatever running through it. It's the contrast that weirds me out.

Looks nice, may need to differentiate between red and blue sides some more though, and the two most inner wooden support things on the edge of the cliff look odd buried half into the rock.

1.

Good, ice/snow should be kept to shaded areas. Direct sunlight is the most significant cause of melt water.

2

Bad, direct sunlight would not allow snow to remain here. I can understand that you're using standard alpha blend techniques to simulate pathing, but weather behaviours prevent this circumstance occuring.

3

Bad, the snow needs to follow the horizontal strata in the cliff texture. Obviously, here you have continued to use the same alpha stencil/pattern as used on the ground and the result is a weird looking environment. Snow collects in the cracks and on small out crops of rocks and certainly whilst in direct sunlight should not looked like the snow was caked on in a blizzard.

-----

When you finalise the light direction, form your snow to obviously appear in the shaded areas. This should imply the nature of your maps theme even if subconsciously. Players need all the clues they can get in interpreting your unique choice of theme accurately.

Your map is definately looking much better.

If only Hammer had in-editor lighting preview that worked...

1. :)
2. Yeah, I'll work on cleaning it up when I finalize lighting/displacements/detailing.
3. I know this, but making blendmodulates is hard so I'm just using the same one as the ground right now.

After a long, hard battle to make the snow work, it didn't. Couldn't get it to look right and I wasn't satisfied, so it has disappeared:

I don't like the way the rusted metal looks on BLU's side.

I guess the obvious thing to say is you'll wanna spend a moment turning a number of your detial prop shadows off.

Now i've stated something you probably already knew, you might wanna update your OP images.
