This map is more like a painting than a level, but I still want to play it.

I think the best part about this contest is getting a lot of maps that are functionally identical, but players and server operators will be able to choose what one they want to use.

A friend of mine said that there'll be the official winner and the community winner.

That is, there will be one map that Valve chooses and will be the official map, and then there will be one map that the community likes better and plays more.

I like that. I like that a lot. I really get the feel that RED have been here for decades, expanding their territory and extending thier buildings.

There will be only one winner, that is chosen by Valve.

That sounds a little counter intuitive. Picking one that the community doesn't like, to go official. Since that will be the one lumped into the communities lap. Yet they wont play it, because there's a better "custom" one.

Oh, its really easy to understand.

Fact: the map plays poorly
Fact: changing how the map plays gets you disqualified

Speculation: one contest entry changes gameplay to be good/balanced/fun
Inferred: Said map would be disqualified from the official contest
Speculation: winning entry still ends up not playing well

Conclusion: map that has good gameplay is not official and is played more than the official map.

I'm not so certain the map does play that badly. My main concern is that the layout doesn't do much for optimisation. At least if you don't intend to surround your map in cliffs like this.

Which is one thing that does kinda bug me about this entry. The complete lack of any sunlight. Tall cliffs and buildings everywhere.

There was an entire string of posts in the FAQ thread about how people thought it was poorly balanced (including a location where a single sentry could spawncamp Blue).

I even recently added a func_nobuild brush outside the right-side exit of Red spawn, as I could trivially hold down the final point with a sentry there on the corner (at least, hold it down from bots when Blue-bots were single handedly rotfstomping the Red-bots).

CP B for those who are scratching their heads.

Not sure about the wooden boards covering up the large pipe in your 1st image. it looks good, but at the same time something is wrong with it.
