Myself and Acumen decided to throw out the offer for anyone that wants some custom models for the Art Pass contest. Basic criterium:

  • Must be something worth designing (no requests for pipes or stairs)
  • Must be a new concept for the game, we will not do modifications of existing models
  • Must fit or be able to fit the general tf2 artstyle (duh!)
  • Must make note of the style of the map (Desert/Industrial/Alpine) and placement (red/blue/neutral)

We want to do as many as we possibly can in the amount of time that we have, but we need things worth spending our time on (custom vehicles, structures, doorways etc).

As far as exclusivity is concerned, models/concepts will be kept exclusive as far as the raw data (we won't share any useable data) if requested. But we don't want to keep things top secret- this forum is meant to inspire and work off of eachother, so we will be showing the concept/model throughout the progress.

NOTE: Suggestions will be executed at the sole discretion of myself and acumen in conjunction, in plain speak: give us some cool stuff to work on yo!

I guess making a "regular" size round hay barrel is out of the question then? I can understand not wanting to make alternatives for already existing models, like pipes. But I wouldn't have thought that just because something was easy/simple that it would be any less worth while to create.

I was hoping its simplicity and ambiguity (junk style prop: similar to crates, palletes and barrels) would make it a prime choice as it would potentially get used by a lot of people and take almost no time to create. Also, it's originally a skybox model so it's not like i have an altnernative to place within my map bounds.

Rating a models worth by complexity but also aiming to chuck out as many props as possible also sounds counter-intuitive to me.

Either way, i hope you consider my request.

dimensions: 128 by 128 by 128 cylindrical hay barrel. I will use it extensively throughout my map and it fits the granary/farm theme.

Also rexy just did exactly a beechcraft - kinda quirky situation :/

grazr, it's not that the request might not be of use to many people but ethan needs/wants something to concept paint (could be possible portfolio additions) and a hay barrel would just not make a too fascinating concept piece for him in the end, i guess.
But you can always hit me in steamchatthing and i'm sure we can work something out :)

Basically the idea was not to state any prop suggestion that crosses your minds, but more on the lines of stuff one needs specifically for his personal artpass project - and is not a hay barrel :eek:

Question before I ask for something: Would you make a model specifically for my entry? The rules appear to accept this. The reason I ask this is because what I want is such a huge, noticeable landmark that'll really stand out... And I'm sure other people would love to use it, but if someone did, it would ruin the uniqueness of my map. If you can't do this, I'll probably ask publicly anyway, but it'll ruin things a bit.

If you should not want to make it available for everyone, it won't be released to everyone, i guess :)

So what I want is a tower crane. Like this one.

I'd like a yellow color that looks a more or less like the dumptruck, to match it. It must also be pretty tall, could you check some more references and try to match the common real life height, to make sure you get it right?

I dig this, there are some shapes to work with in the design, and it's yellow :p

As far as scale I'm not sure what the limitations for the map are but if you could get us a rough XY I'd love to do it!

Apparently a tower crane is 150ft or 46m. So if you can convert that to Hammer units (I'm not exactly sure how), that's pretty much what I need. It may end up absolutely massive, but hey, it's a tower crane... It needs to be. :p The length isn't very important, as long as it looks right. The relation between height and length in that picture (The toy) looks good to me.

EDIT: Wait... All right, 150 ft is 1800 inches, which should be 1800 Hammer Units, right? Something like that would be good then... Even though it sounds a little small.

EDIT: All right, how about this. The tower itself can be 1800 units, and on top of that I'd like the operator's seat.

Yup, it was a request for my artpass map. I do my own content when I can, but this is a complex model, I've got loads to do already, and it was only going to be in the background -- so it got removed from my to-do.

If Rexy already made one, I'll look into that and ask his okay. Couldn't find any airplanes when I looked before.

My list is rather large, but hopefully some of them interest you guys. All are Mayan themed (so green / brown / grey / yellow colours)

- Giant Mayan Head Guy. I was thinking it'd be fairly large so I could have it half buried in the ground (so .. half player height?). Probably grey rather than yellow since it'd go outside and be looking abit worn out. http://www.estorelive.com/uploadfiles/listing292.jpg

Moss / Damage to the above models would be a plus. :)

- Vines and Ivy models in a few different sizes.

- Some kind of tall jungle tree. I guess it'd have to be in Skybox and normal variants. Although it'd be nice if it wasn't to jungley, so it could be used with other themes. Always been annoyed that the Pine tree model is the only decent tree in the game.

lol i just made a request thread yesterday. but this is really the main thing from it i would like (i understand you have a lot of requests so if you don't get to this for awhile/at all it's cool :)

- An old fashioned sled (like this) If the runners had skins for both teams that would be awesome, although if not, just gray.

I'd also like a crane. I've been trying to make one but making it out of brushes is kinda ugly. If we could use the same one, that would be a plus...

Great to see there is some activity :D ya'll are gonna be keeping us busy :)

We will be going down the list pretty systematically, so don't worry about us being too busy, we will get to you!

@Goombac You will have to talk to Muffin Man about sharing the crane

Goombac, I know it's unfair to say this, but I asked for it knowing that it could be made specifically for my entry. I'm sorry, but I'd like to keep that deal closed so the originality won't be lost. However, if Ethan and Acumen agree, I'm sure it could be made available after the contest.

About the body; That looks awesome! I especially like B, it's quite simple and stylistic.

Yeah, it's fine. I got permission to use one of the prefabs on FPSBanana, so I'll try that and do my best with the brushes.

Wanted to finish the base of the crane before I started working on the fuselage, since that is going to be the most time-consuming thing for me. This way Acumen can keep himself busy whilst I work on the body :D
