Goldrush spawnroom

Hey guys,

Let me start off by telling I know a thing or 2 about hammer, but mostly the basic things. Now today I wanted to start off with a spawnroom as I've been picking up mapping again, and I wondered how the 1st stage Red spawnroom in Gold Rush was made. It looks like there are arches on the corners of it, but it also looks like they used the vertex tool to skew the walls on the outside.

I've copied the outer walls of the spawnroom from the official map, and it looks like it's one brush as I can't ungroup it.

I attached an image which shows the spawnroom I mean.

Can anyone help me with this? I really like how it looks...it's...different from straight walls :)

When you select it, you can hit ctrl+u to separate the component brushes that make it up. Then you'll be easily able to select each brush to see how it all fits together.

Well that's the point...I can't ungroup it...I'll try again.

Just tried. ctrl+u doesn't work and neither do the other methods of ungrouping.

I think it's a func_detail, which means it's all one entity. Try Ctrl + Shift + W (to turn it back into a brush), then ungroup.

Ok, so it was a func_detail. I managed to ungroup it and separate the "arch" like walls from the rest, but I just cannot seem to reproduce those to shapes...

Can anyone help me with that?

Edit:

I think I just managed to do it by creating an 3-sided, 90 degree, arch. Removing 1 of 3 pieces, and using the vertex tool to recreate the rest.

Thanks

If anyone's able to find that tutorial Bot190 is talking about, I'd glady read it...Im trying again but it's still pretty hard for me to recreate that shape...

There are multiple ways to do it. you can do it by clipping most likely. Also, notice on the grid on the right that the lines at the bend are still parallel. that means its a flat face.

Basicly you can allways get it as long as the top square of the brush is identical to the bottom one. Try to make just 1 of the 2 squares in the top view. Then with vertex editing select all the top sides and then move them.

It realy isnt that hard to make it.
