Just though I should post this incase you haven't read
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1360060

Aparantly FPSbanana is infected with a virus...not for the first time it seems. I have visited the site a few times today, but don't appear to have the virus.

Aparntly Firefox and Chrome can keep you safe...but don't be too sure.

/me deletes FPSB from favourites.

I know it's not uncommon, but I thought I should warn anyone anyway, just incase as I know people do still visit that site from here. I must have had the virus a while ago though becuase reading the 'symptoms' of the virus I seem to remember it happenign to me once.

Honestly, I don't know why someone else doesn't try to make a site that does what FPSB is supposed to if it wasn't coded worse than a HAL 9000 and less secure than... Paris Hiltons undergarmets? (Probably lots of viruses there too...)

As it is, sounds like I'll be getting the majority of my maps from here for the forseeable future. Which, now that I think about it, doesn't really change anything. :p

Well, the main problem is that, as a mapmaker, putting up here means you'll get good feedback, but putting up on FPSB means you'll get wide distribution. It's sad that it is that way, unless someone else can point out other good sites. (I know some people were putting their maps out for some comp. league's Map Monday or whatever, but I don't know how viable that is.)

EDIT: This was in response to Dr. Forrester, not to the overall thread.

That's what I mean. The only reason people even continue to go there is because there isn't really any other "mass market" distribution sites. If someone else opened one up without the same problems, people would start leaving FPSB in droves.

Makes me wish I had the money/know how to do this.

The problem with that Forrester is that BECAUSE its so huge and BECAUSE it tends to all games and people get you get the kids who rage hard and cause site crashes and viruses.

fpsb reminds me of 4chan more or less.

Nono, DJive. 4chan has people who know shit. Like, they could be the ones who PUT that virus on fpsbanana.

4chan has intelligence (common sense, honour, etc., not quite so, but they know stuff). FPSBanana does not.

[Your best bet as a mapmaker is to use us, TF2M, for feedback, and when your map makes beta, mass market it at FPSB]

qft.

TF2maps did have a problem with malicious flash adverts at one point in time, but nothing as serious as the crap FPSB get. When we found out, DrP immediately changed our advertising source even though it meant less sponsorship funds, talk about looking after your community! That said, it has been a while since i heard anything about that place.

I guess hackers just like winding up little kids who are easy to attack and don't know how to look after their PC's.
