Yay for useless crap.

First time I loaded Thundermountain everything seemed meh, until I heard the thunder. I thought it was in the soundscape, but upon opening the decompiled map I saw that they were randomised ambient_generics. So I decided that adding lightning to the thunder would be cool and made some lightning textures, and ta-daa, created this.

Includes:

  • five lightning textures
  • one white texture (for the optional white flash)
  • one sample map (.vmf and .bsp)
  • a readme
With the default settings, either of the five lightning bolts will strike at 45- to 120-second intervals. Change the logic_timer entity settings to modify the times. To turn on the white flash which occurs every time lightning strikes, enable the "screenoverlay" visgroup and recompile.

Enjoy.

btw, in left 4 dead valve uses colour correction to simulate the flash of light given off from lightning.

Matt informed me of that when I linked in chat; he also said that No Mercy uses sprites to light up clouds. I'll look into that tomorrow, probably release 1.1.

Why would anyone ever do that? Color correction is one of the most vital aspects of lighting.

On topic: this is really cool, if I make a map with that theme I'll definitely use it and give you the much deserved props.

Oops, I deleted the DB file, thinking I had it on the TF2M servers.

It's back up now, sorry.
