I enjoy reading stories about crazy gamers doing something completely ridiculous, any game, any genre. Obscure or not, if there is a story to tell or a great achievement somewhere in it, i'm sold.
There are so many memories and great moments that you just never forget, something just happened and became a big thing and the whole community just watched.

So here is a thread to share cool stories about gaming.

---------

I'll start off with one of my favorite memories, too bad it's one of those "you had to be there" things, where just talking about it makes you sound crazy. Probably doesn't make much sense if you never played Diablo 2...
GERBarb vs RUSSBarb
In late 2000 a team of diablo 2 players in Russia decided to powerlevel a barbarian character to the max level of 99, which had never been reached before.
Soon another team in Germany tries the same and it was a race :)

It was great tbh, people were following the race like eagles, helping out if they could, imagining 2 titans racing to new heights, being played by dozens of players night and day just boggled my mind to no end. (I was young, and a lot of things did that to my head either way, but you get my point.)
Best part was when they broke the experience counter since it couldn't store higher value integers at level 92. That is classy.

---------

Another one that I like that is slightly easier to grasp.. probably:
Quake Done Quick - the movie
Actually, the original isn't that interesting, but the follow up "Quake done Quick With a Vengeance" from year 2000, where they learn about bunnyjumping, is a lot of fun to watch if you have ever played a fps game.
So in short it's about completing Quake 1 on the hardest difficulty, in the shortest amount of time. Each map is played separately and then stitched together to finalize the total time.
12 minutes and 23 seconds.

It's available all over the internet to watch, here is one source:

There's even a wiki article about it
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quake_done_Quick

My thought's when seeing it for the first time: "Wait, did he just grenade jump from that yellow key? holy shit" and "how is that even possible?!" over and over again.

Beating Lance in Pokemon Soulsilver (and the original Pokemon Gold but I can't remember it that well).

Lance has
- Gyarados lvl 44
- Dragonite lvl 49
- Dragonite lvl 49
- Aerodactyl lvl 48
- Charizard lvl 48
- Dragonite lvl 50

And at the time, I had
- Ampharos lvl 43
- Dragonair lvl 40
- Meganium lvl 40
- Poliwrath lvl 42
- Pidgeot lvl 40
- Umbreon lvl 36

Suffice to say I was at a severe disadvantage. But after multiple retries I finally devised a strategy, with my weak and broken team (from the elite four beforehand), and the items I had left (~5 revives and a few hyper potions). I gave a Choice Scarf my Mom (in-game) had given to me to my Ampharos so he would just outspeed his Gyarados and other nasties and let the battle begin.

By using a combination of Revives, Ampharos's Thunder Wave and my Dragonair's Dragon Rush, I managed to take him down after an epic battle probably lasting 30 minutes or more, with my Dragonair taking out 3 Dragonites, all of a higher level than him. It was pretty crazy stuff, I wish I could recall the entire battle because I got so lucky sometimes (Dragon Rush missed a lot for him).

There was also another Pokemon moment in the Koga Elite Four battle on the same day. I'm not joking when it took literally an hour to faint his Muk who had managed to max his Evasiveness, and also had a healing item. So most attacks of mine missed, and when they did hit, I couldn't hit quick enough before he had re-healed the damage. Add to that that the Muk liked to use Toxic and Gunk Shot so I had to be constantly reviving and switching, it was pretty crazy.

The most basic one: me and a team of crack gamers playing I Wanna Be The Guy in our Mechanical Design class with an audience when we were supposed to be working. We all choose different paths and exchanged saves via the public drive anytime anyone made it further in. Eventually we had two men working on every possible path, trying to make it further so the saves could be updated. Because the save files WERE on a public drive, eventually one of the saves made it further in, but no one knew who did it. We never found out who did to this day... The Phantom Guy....

---------------------------------------

The only other truly epic story I have is that of a game of Cutthroat Caverns, a board game in which the group is a party of D&D-esque adventurers trying to survive the monsters and make it out alive with the most VPs for yourself. Games of it are VERY cutthroat, especially since the VPs for a monster go to whoever dealt the killing blow, not who dealt the most damage, among other things. (Such as redirecting attacks, using other people as shields, stealing items, etc.) Check it out, I actually designed a few monsters for the expansions! ;D

Anyways, so this one game, we are getting all the hard monsters. Ashtongue the Cruel, Clockwork Golem, a very enraged and very exploited Gluttony... all the hardest ones were showing up and kicking our asses, and they also happened to be the most valuable, so we were tripping each other and throwing grenades at the party just so we'd get the chance to kill the creatures. I'm the first to go down due to some monster (I forgot which), another goes down because he lost at blackjack with an ogre (I'm not making this up), two more go down because of Ashtongue the Cruel, and the fifth falls because the magic amulet he wanted attacked him. It was down to one guy at 5 health, the lowest it can be. If he defeated the next monster (which wouldn't have been in if we had killed that bloodmage earlier than we did...), he would've won by default. If he died, we all would've lost in a dead man's tie. The tension was palpable when the monster card was flipped.

It was the Boogens. Think a goblin horde's nursery except easier to defeat.

All the dead players raged. The one remaining guy throws an alchemist's fire and offs the thing before it even starts.

It was fucking epic, the whole thing. Even better since it was the rogue that survived with an amazing 48 points. (Most winners have maybe half that.)

yes i remember that, if a friend went out of the room for a sec to get some food i would always surround them with mines.

Speaking of doing horrible things to someone that leaves the room, unpausing a race in Mario Kart, followed by driving into them with a three shell powerup or a trail of bananas.

Proximity mines all over the temple level of Goldeneye. Everywhere.

I always hung around the small balcony with proximity mines in Facility as Oddjob.

SET MINES ON THE ONLY ENTRANCE, CONSTANTLY PICK UP RESPAWNING MINES, DODGING HEADSHOTS FROM PEOPLE FOR BEING SO SMALL.

I was banned from playing Oddjob ever again.

92 to 14 is a better kdr than 20 to 0

huh?

While i was agree that 92:14 is amazing and IS a better score ... mathematically 20:0 is a better KDR.
