I just want to know why it's so hard for Flame to show some polite, respectful behavior.
It's not. I see him display polite, respectful behavior on a regular basis.
I just want to know why it's so hard for Flame to show some polite, respectful behavior.
Actually, If anything I'd say we need more people who actually speaks their mind about maps and not just pass them on with a "yeah it was good" comment (I'm guilty of doing that a lot).
rexy please excuse me while i point you in the direction of the nearest exit for this thread. top right, the one with the X.
Absolutely, but there's no reason to be rude about it. There's no reason you can't speak your mind and be polite and respectful about it. There's a difference between constructive and destructive criticism.
I dont see why team unbalancing in a test is an issue when scramble plugins exist. Get the gameday host or impromtu host to scramble if you feel the current teams arent good for testing
Here is where I stand:
-mt.neutralsnip-
Or at least where I'm trying to stand, it's nearly impossible to not be on one side or another these days.
I'm not gonna pick either side (if I can avoid it) because goddamn, you are just trying to fling dirt in each others faces down there. I think I'm a pretty tolerant person, I've yet to meet anyone on this site, or on our servers that has annoyed me so much that I need to mute/ignore them (there has been close calls but still not enough).
On the secondary topic of this thread (the "Flame is a douche? vote now" thing) I don't know what to say other than that I can't see where most of the criticism is coming from. I gather it's from him being blunt in his comments?
For starters some of my first encounters with flame was when he thundering down feedback lane on ctf_system (my map). And he had a lot to say about it, most sentences contained the word "suck" or "change map".
This made me more happy than angry tbh (and I'm not just saying that), because for the first time in 3 months someone pointed out the design faults that had been troubling me for ages, and actually had suggestions to fix when I confronted him about it. Sadly the map was done at that point and I didn't feel like updating it. But the feedback was carried on and used in ctf_fusion.
As I see it: Flame is blunt, but I have never seen him being rude. He can offer good feedback and you either take it, ignore it or bitch about it. And I don't know why so many choose option #3.
I think I'm slowly sliding down the mountain into the "yay flame" category? At least until someone can record a live session/me witnessing a situation where flame is a complete dick for no reason.
Blaming one guy for unbalancing a test, in a team based game is ridiculous and I'd say trying to figure out how he manages to be successful on the map is a good lesson in itself.
As I said in my earlier reply, I have not caught flame being specifically rude to anyone.
How people takes his blunt criticism is up to the individual. It's possible they see it as destructive, but that is not Flame's problem.
Being able to handle all form of critique is something you have to learn when doing any kind of artistic work, including mapping.
Alright I am going to put my foot down and hopefully address some of the er "problems."
#1: Flame unbalances tests
Alright this has /some/ truth to it. Flame after all is a comp player and is a dam good one at that. However he is not the only "unbalancing" player on the server. So let me list off the "pro" TF2Maps players:
Ravidge: Fucking crazy good sniper
Rexy: Also a dam good sniper
Blob: Dam snipers...
Snacks: Pub-stomping Heavy
Psy: Another dam good heavy
Supertoaster: "Original" team unbalancer
Flame: Too pro for proness
Rikka: God dam scouts
Nineaxis: Pro as hell medic (Also ex pro spy)
TMP: Pro pyro (When his internet is working)
Moose: Fuck you Moose stop killing me
Beatz: He crockets my face. :<
All I am trying to say here is that Flame is good at TF2 and bitching about it is not going to change it. However, it will make him less likely to give you feedback... oh look point 2!
#2: Flame does not give enough/bad feedback
This also is bullshit. Look at Coldfront, Wildfire, Fusion, and all the other maps flame gave feedback on. Yeah those maps sucked didn't they? Hell even Assembly would have gone further down the shit slope if flame had not slapped me across the face. Yes I know that it stings with anyone starts yelling "This map blows move onto the next one" However, I take some comfort in knowing that its someone who knows what they are talking about. And then we are on point 3, his "rage."
#3: Flame is a jerk
Flame has an ego, thats just who he is. Yes its annoying to some when he yells something like "Get raped!" or what not but thats why TF2 has the mute function. Flame is like that asshole teacher you had in high-school. The one that was a jerk but knows what they are talking about and kicks you in the ass every day because they really care about you.
In closing Flame is a rare treat; he not only is a comp player who can get things done but he also loves customs and gives some badass feedback. So should he be a mod? I could care less really, thats up to drp to figure out when he posts the good old help wanted sign the door. Until then this is all and will continue to be just a monkey shit fest.
If you've gone through an academic college level degree where you face artistic criticism every day of your life, like I did, you would know the difference between when someone is giving good criticism and when someone is not. And it gets even worse in graduate school. If any of you think for a minute that the kind of criticism you're receiving from Flame isn't destructive, you haven't really understood criticism.
Hi. I've gone through an academic college level degree where I face artistic criticism every day of my life, and I'm calling bullshit on you right here, right now. Spend four years in an art program and you learn that "constructive" refers to the content of the criticism, not its delivery. If you can't see the forest for the trees, that's your problem, and you're going to suffer as an artist because you miss valid points.
You and I have already done this dance.
Serious: When did people go spectator because they didn't want to face flame? That is just an outright made up lie.[/QUOTE said:I do that alot
