Dear Esther being the most beautiful mapping in the history of source is old news. The content is fresh! :p

And amazing.

Is there a download for it? Do want.

This is insane - how did they do those water effects?!

No download yet, still in production. According to previous entries though, it's over halfway done, and this guy is going to finish it.

Afaik, Dear Esther was purely a narrative-driven mod with no enemies.

Yeah, when I was watching the trailer, I first thought "This was made in source?" Then, my mind went to work. "Well, these are just material proxies. These are probably just models. Oh man that waterfall is such obviously a displacement, Wow, if I had the patience I could do this!"

Agreed, i was thinking the exact same thing. Escpecially since he had to hack in some of the shader technology rather than upgrade the mods engine to one of the newer ones. What a mental guy...

Not dealing with AI etc has really allowed him to kane the aesthetics. What's impressive is his knowledge about everything involved in the mapping process. Like the particle effects... i've not made the time to learn building particle effects, or even model yet or make custom sound scapes. This guy has touched on pretty much everything and i wouldn't be surprised if he gets a job after this project.

He has worked at Dice on ME so I don't think he'll struggle to find another job if he doesn't already have one. :p

It's things like these that makes me want to create a purely detail piece sometime. But I can never find good references that really inspires me.. and then I lose interest...
