I'm so happy I'm not the only person interested in this game. Signed up awhile ago, but still no beta key :( This will be the first mmo that looks worth spending the monthly fee. Anyways, if you guys are serious about buying the game, I think we should organize now. I want to be a priest, the Tempest of Set.

I really like ranged classes in MMO's. I like to sit back and let other people get hurt while I do damage. In GW I had a really fun Mesmer / Necro. Basically I used the DoT spells from the Mesmer combined with the disease / poison DoT from the Necro.

I had some sick AoE DoT (interpretation: Area of Effect, Damage over Time) spells which I had lots of fun with.

I looked around the website and tried to get interested, but I'm just not seeing anything compelling about it. I'm bothered by the differentiation between PvP levels and PvE levels, because I really want an MMO where the two playstyles are seamless. As far as the world and environment... I just keep getting the feeling I'm well outside the game's target audience.

The combat is what makes it so great, as for pve and pvp, there will be pvp servers where you can attack anyone and loot their corpses supposedly, and then there will be pve servers where its only in designated areas, i think. Also, the pvp levels just mean you get gear from them, they arent anything special from what ive seen, of course i could be wrong.

I am pretty split when it comes to PvP, I played Diablo II for a long time which had no PvP system and no balancing done for PvP, it was just tossed in as a fun thing you could do. I also played Guild Wars for a while and had lots of fun playing Team battles and GvG battles.

GW was all about checks and balances, You fields a spike damage spell caster, we field a strong, fast casting anti-spell caster with lots of interupts to stop your spell caster, you field a fast moving, strong hitting build to stop our anti-caster, ect... The "Strongest" build changed from week to week as new ways of countering and one-upping each build was discovered. I really had fun with that but at the same time I thought that GW was missing a lot of the casual fun that was in Diablo II. I missed being able to challenge a friend to a 1v1 dual anywhere I wanted. For the longest time it was not even possible, and then when it WAS possible you had to go to a special location and if you wanted to change something you had to stop all the combat, go back to the common area, then start it back up.

So I really like the idea of arenas and not having to worry about some greifer killing me when I am trying to just play the game, I also miss the ability to easily change things up and just go on a casual killing spree against a friend. I mean towards the end of my playing time on Diablo II that is almost all we would do. We would play our new characters for a little bit, then get bored, grab a couple of our bigger ones and duke it out for a bit. It would ussually start because I would be out killing monstors, then my friend would join, we would have a really unbalanced level 12 vs. level 74 battle where he was restricted to only using daggers or something, then I would go get my high level and it was just fun. GW took that "just fun" out of the game and made it more standard. You couldnt just meet up with a friend randomly and start beeting the crap out of each other.

Man... I really need to stop writing these posts at 2:00 am...

The environment art is great, and i am a huge fan of robert howards works, and want this game to be great. The fact that its also for a console worrys me, as most games co developed for console are pretty dummed down, and i cant stand instanced zones, and a world were you can only pk if you "choose" to.

Alright played the last 6 hours in open beta..
Mind you this is ALL in beta! and all in my opinion.

The good:

1. BEAUTIFUL, BEAUTIFUL, BEAUTIFUL. by far the mosy pretty game ive played. I'd say its close to on par with Oblivion and runs decently smooth

2. Singleplayer mode? WTF COOL. you can actually go to the Inn and have the game set to night. If in "night" mode its single player. this helps a ton on loading times. at any point you can switch back to multiplayer the same way.

3. Combat: Wicked innovating. you have 3 different attack directions, left/middle/right. Depending on which way the npc or player is blocking, go the other way to do your dmg. If you attack a direction that has a lot of "block" on, your dmg is very minimal so pay attention!

4. MANY quests at low levels very quick leveling to get you to level 10 where the game kinda "starts" you can pvp and get abilitys at lvl 10.

5. Character Creation Wow.. just wow.. i can say with ease that you WILL NOT find 2 characters that look alike, SOO many options

Cons:

1. No death penalty I was pissed when i saw this. I remember DAoC. you die, you loss EXP as IMO you should. I reaaaallly hope they add some sort or penalty.

2. combat is to fast weapons dont have attack time.. so everything is very quick, roughly you can attack once every 1.2 seconds which is crazy in a bad way

3. good grouping gone wrong This most certainly will be fixed but ill list it anyways. If you and me group and go into town *zone* there is a chance we will go to different instances. for towns there is about 30 different instances!.. and btw it doesn't tell you what one you are in =p talk to a buddy and pick a number.

4. chat UI is just a HORRIBLE mess. bad defualt color and as of so far no way to custom color. Also there is no /g *for group* or /say *for say* they do have /r *for response* however, the rest though you need to click the tab to the channel. =/

Anyone whos interested in it ask away, Nark and myself im sure can answer, also i can record any gameplay you want

I count no death penalty as a plus, at least in terms of exp. After EQ and FFXI, I refuse to play any MMO that will rob me of several hours of my life if I happen to have a moment of back luck. I'm generally fine with other forms of penalty for death, but not experience or any comparable loss of something I spent a lot of time working for.

I do agree with you there Mangy, it just bothers me there is nothing.

when you die after level 10 you DO get a grave and a -2% penalty to melee and magic dmg, however if you dont get your grave in 25mins it goes away and on top of that... whats 2% dmg when you are hitting for 60+ dps... may as well keep gogin

Hah ya, Vanguard though it HURT to die because not only did it take your exp and armor it put an AWFUL debuff on you that made you useless till you got the grave.

I'll try to get a quick gameplay video up showing the quality and such.
