This is a massive ecological disaster over which we have zero control. You pretty much need a morbid sense of humor, or risk becoming depressed/crazy. Check it out; http://www.ifitwasmyhome.com/

Some fun places to compare;

Galapagos Islands
London (of course)
Madagascar
Iceland
Pripyat (Chernobyl Nuclear Reactor)
Kyoto
Tel Aviv
Ireland
Bowen, Austrailia (roughly mainland center of The Great Barrier Reef)
Lake Baikal, Russia (largest freshwater body on Earth)

Wow, yea. Seeing it cover London was a real eye opener... Or atleast.. Portsmouth.

Try "Portsmouth, UK" and it covers nearly the entire south coast.

Dude, I just tried it with Brighton, which is near where I grew up and it covers nearly the entire south east portion of England.

Shit is crazy man. Am I the only one who felt compelled to click 'Put it back in the Gulf' before closing the page?

I just checked it, I put it over my town then notice that when i moved it up a couple of states and found that it is ruffly the size of Maine. At this point the government shouldn't hold back for months any method that might harm the environment because it has already destroyed most of it. I heard other countries have volunteered like the Netherlands and we just turned them away

as john stewert said "the problem now isn't getting the oil out of the coast, it's getting everything else out of the oil"

This thing covers the whole east of Scotland, and most of the west. The only bit untouched is everything on the other side of loch ness / Ben nevis.

It would fill all of Lake Erie.

And nothing of value was lost. :p

http://wonkette.com/416161/bps-secret-nightmare-revealed-100000-barrels-leaking-every-day

Happy Summer Solstice, Earthlings! Your Earth is bleeding maybe 100,000 barrels of crude oil per day through its Gulf Hole, according to secret BP documents that are no longer secret, thanks to Rep. Ed Markey releasing these no-longer-secret documents. 100,000! That’s a little more than 60,000 barrels — if by “little” you mean, “NO NOOOO JESUS C’MON!” And why do we keep calling it an “oil spill,” which sounds like a minor kitchen mishap, when the Gulf of Mexico well disaster is more accurately described as a “gusher”? Because “gusher” sounds kind of porn-y, to America’s oversexed and overfed ears, and is there anything more gross than Americans on the Gulf Coast thinking about/having sex? [Reuters/Biloxi Sun]
