Ok ok. I've been a long time stalker here. First i came for the maps, then i came for the knowledge and now i'm coming for the help.

I've played TF2 for a long time (Gold medal owner). I played casually, residing on public servers mostly playing pl maps as engineer but recently i cut the WoW out of my life (2 months and going strong!~ish). To fill the time i decided to take Team fortress more seriously. I started playing competitively.

After weeks of fruitless team searching I was contacted by a stranger with a plan. Now i am 2nd in command of a 6v6 team; Flavour of the Month. Things are looking promising for us, we've made a lot of friends and allies in the comp scene. Watch out for us in the ETF2L All summer long league.

A few days ago i opened up Source SDK "How hard can it be?". :O
17 Hours later I've learned so much but it's still only a fraction of what i desire to learn, that is why i am here.
I have some ideas in my head, one down on paper. One is a Koth/5CP map. Another is an idea for a prop hunt map (prop hunt is one of my TF2 passions and i'm not ashamed! :p. and an idea for a roll out practice map but i'm not sure how exactly i'm going to go about it.

The work you all do is fantastic. So many amazing maps, resources and minds here. I'm wanting to help any way i can with my own skills and I'm hoping you want to help me too.

To break the ice i have two issues:

The name Tom is taken :(
I can't see any links to the member page around. I kinda expected to find it at forum/memberlist.php but alas not. After a quick search it seems that the user Tom has never made any topics or posts. I think it's safe to assume it's an inactive account. Is it possible for you to delete or rename that account and rename mine Tom?

A good 5-6 hours of my time in hammer has been spent trying to get my damn prop_dynamic models to appear in game. I've done countless searches but can't seem to find much on the issue. I've looked at their Fade Dist values and i read something about an issue with gpu values but the gpu fix tutorial didn't make much sense. :(

For a first project I would start with something smaller, like a KotH map. 5CP really is the most complex mode to map for in the game

This is a must-read for all new members

Jump in the Steam chat room sometime, all the cool kids hang out there ;)

About the name change, I'm not sure about that one.

Are the prop_dynamic models just not appearing? Or do they have error models?

They simply do not appear. You can collide with them and you can hear them.
static and physics prop work normally. Compile log does not reference any errors about props and neither does the in game console.

First of all, welcome.
The problem with your prop seems to be, that the certain prop you want to use as Prop_dynamic may only be applied to a Prop_static entity.
There is a workaround though. Create a Prop_dynamic_override entity, double click, and select the model you wanted as the world model. That should fix it.

I copied some out of valve maps, they appear in game just fine. Does this point to an issue with the properties of my props? If so, why my props? I've not changed any settings on them apart from the names and model; the rest is all the default settings and weren't specified to be changed in any of the tutorials i read?

The problem with your prop seems to be, that the certain prop you want to use as Prop_dynamic may only be applied to a Prop_static entity.
There is a workaround though. Create a Prop_dynamic_override entity, double click, and select the model you wanted as the world model. That should fix it.

I never thought this would be the issue as i'm pretty darn sure that resupply cabinets and doors are dynamic, moving models. :p
Anyhow if the issue was as you said wouldn't the fix be to change the prop to the correct kind?

Try using prop_dynamic_override as DJD said. You could also download A Boojum Snark's library, which has prefabs for doors and resupply cabnets that work for me at least.

Sorry i didn't really make it clear that i already tried that. Copying out of other maps/libraries works brilliantly.

this this and this are just plain cheating, i love it! :wow: Saves so much time and effort. BIG thanks to the makers of these resources.

Thanks for the help, going to get set about making a basic layout of my koth map idea and get some primitive playtesting done.
