I got an idea for a map where the players (either red or blue team) arrive to the map by train, the original spawns will be on the train, and when the train stops, the spawns will get disabled and switch to a different spawns. Also, blue would arrive from water, and red would arrive from land. I was thinking the fog would fade out the land on both sides.

This will either be arena or koth in the theme of Well (industrial)

I want to know if it's feasible to have the teams arrive on trains (FPS wise and immersion wise).

Arena and KotH don't have a setup time, so adding this to them would just eat up time that could be used to kill each other. If this was an a/d, it could be amusing for the BLU team while they wait for the round to start, but for Arena and KotH, no.

If you want to keep the trains and boats, you could have them by or have them be the spawns.

Thanks for the quick response, now knowing this, ill most likely just put them off in the 3d skybox so there is some nod to it.

Don't loose hope too fast. It's a cool cinematic idea and like Capellan said it would be cool in an attack defense scenario.

Good idea?

I don't really see what it would accomplish besides a WOW factor. I think it would be better to focus on gameplay rather than gimicks.

Hmm, I think moveable objects would be pretty choppy in TF2, so while this was moving you would fly all over the place. I think a solution to this could be just having the stuff outside of the train move, and have the train be stationary. It would look as if the train was moving, but in reality it isn't (like when you are on a train and see the other train moving and thinking it's you). The downside would be that demostickies wouldn't be able to stick to the ground in the spawn. But I think it could be fun to watch. Just don't have the defending team come with train, because they have been there the whole time, defending the place.

You could have the train deliver the resupply cabinets, by leaving a car behind. I wouldn't go with the train though because as people have said, players look choppy on moving objects (the cabinets might look that way too). I'm not too sure what you mean about the water for blue, to be honest it sounds a bit random.

It wouldn't be worth it. And cinematic intros aren't for TF2.
