Exactly this. The floating door motors don't bug valve enough to eradicate them from their maps, so why should we be so worried about it?
Valve don't bother to eliminate all clipping 'issues' from their maps so why should we?

As long as you can't exploit said issue it doesn't matter.

Naturally clipping body-level walls so you run around smoothly is important and an entirely unrelated subject.

You seem to forget that I was one of the fine young lads who harped about the floating motors until you fixed them.

I thought here at TF2M we strived to be ebettr than Valve, but I see that's not the case. if Valve makes a mistake, we should make the same ones.

No, we're just striving to have a good time doing what we love doing, you've been totally mislead.

This thread neither shows up under Control Point nor Release Candidate filters. =\

It was listed as "planning" D:

It is now listed as release candidate, and always was listed as cp, dunno whats going on there

Bump time. I'm wanting to work on an RC2 of this that people don't find:

1. Uninspired
2. Eye melting
3. Bland

I'd like honest opinions on gameplay, honest feedback on visuals, and any and all suggestions to make Furnace better.

Hit me up for playtest if you want, i have always enjoyed furnace and never found it to be any of those things.

Good luck with rc2.

Quite honestly, I'm not so sure what more you want. I can tell you that this map isn't revolutionary, but I can also tell you that when I play it, I find it reliable and I usually have a good time. I could tell you that C falls very quickly in my experience, but short of little changes like penguin pointed out I just don't see too many more 'small changes' that can be done to this map.

I think your approaching a (math) limit of what you can change in this map. Sure, you can keep making changes, but I think if you want to keep the core structure these changes are going to get smaller and smaller until you won't even notice them on the scale they're tested on :/

Aka just release it already :D

You asked for opions; however meager, so I'd thought I'd say something.

Visual wise
: Great, however as been mentioned before: having the majority of the boundaries as cliff edges makes one feel confied in, and somewhat cluastrophobic. It also breaks the immersion of feeling like the map is somewhere in the world. Solution, if you can be bothered, replace some more cliffs with buildings/ more varied environment (eg cliffs of more different heights etc...)

C point. I like the tower concept, but never really been a fan of the point/playable area, I just don't like the almost symetrical design to be honest. It feels almost as if attacking from A or B is the same and both attack directions are mirrored. Also whenever ivé played it before C seems hard to defend well.

Just my opinion.

I really can't say there's anything wrong with this map. We've had it for ages on our community server and we love playing it. I enjoy the way it was detailed and everything. I never thought it was eye melting, and I never thought it was boring, but I can see why people said that. If anything, the new plr map and thunder mountain are bland, they don't do anything new. Any changes you make could be improvements, but they'd be improvements upon something good already.

Good way to put it, i think its ready to release. I still enjoy it, furnace is definitely in my top 10 most played custom maps and i feel its balanced enough for fun fair gameplay.

If the lighting is an issue here, i'd say that the map really is different from all others. Perhaps even too orange. Visually it's somethingt that other maps don't have and i think that's why some of the players avoid this map.

But as in the image, if original is supposed to be "fixed" somehow. I'd end up with 3rd from top or even with the one on the bottom. It's like calm before the storm but there really never rains in desert so.. 3rd from top, that would also make it more dustbowl like. People like dustbowl so wanting this to be more popular, i'd go with that.

If you're keen on keeping a dim, end-of-the-day type look, have you considered Owly-Oop's eveningtoast? It's been ages since I've seen it in action, but the actual textures look pretty close to what you might have been going for. And it's gold and purple, so the light_environment entities should be team-neutral.

If this map was Breaking Bad, it would have started in Mexico and then slowly progressed into the states.
I'd personally go with the third one down, since it retains the reddish western look without overdoing it. Either way, thanks for reminding me that there's already a gpit-style map with a western theme; guess I'm gonna stay with alpine ;)

Good job for RED on taking the environmental initiative ;)

Great job on the map, I've downloaded it and played several matches and it really has potential.
