Don't leave your item pickups flat against the floor. Teleports built on them will prevent everyone, including the engineer from getting them.

Raise them 8-16 units. That way, teleports won't be able to block them but still look perfectly natural (as natural as floating spinning items will go)

Also may I add don't put them too deep in a corner, sometimes you can't actually get them.

This. YELL like fucking mad at the noob engie who builds on picksup. He is retarded like a scout that takes a teleport or a pre-fix-spy who takes a teleport.

You should have your pickups closer to the ground than icarus suggests because it just looks terribad to see them floating at knee height.

This is not a problem mappers need to fix. It is one players need to. (though putting pickups where engies like to build is something mappers can do)

I 1000% disagree with you here Icarus.

Still, 8 units isn't that much and it still allows you to build a teleporter under pickups while being able to pick them up still.

Though I do agree about that engineer thing.

I believe it is the mapper's duty to make the gameplay as smooth as possible. These little hiccups, although rare, are still really annoying.

You're a fool if you refuse to raise them, especially since they're just so damn easy to avoid with no downsides at all.

I am split between icarus and YM and am going with the happy medium of 8 units. Engies can still build under them and people can still get the health/ammo and it doesnt look like they are at knee height :D

Is aesthetic loss not a downside now?

I'm happy with 4-8 units but putting them a whole 16 units up is really stupid and you deserve to be shot for it.

Could you find for us the maximum height you need to be able to pick them up (not the max height they need to not clip)

What about placing a 'nobuild' trigger around the pick ups? This seems like the optimal solution, solving both the item height issue and preventing engineers from blocking item pick ups.

...

There is a 'nobuild' trigger option right?

At the moment, blocking pickups is possible by placing buildings on them and this is the case in all official maps. This has gameplay implications that go beyond being a nuisance - Engineers might in some cases WANT to build a building on for example a full ammo pack so that Spies can't take it anymore. While not a lot of Engies do that, it's possible and it might be more frustrating if things did not work that way.

What's next? Negating fall damage on a ledge that doesn't hurt you when you walk off it and only when you jump?

Likewise, and I play engie a lot. Don't think I've ever tried to build a teleporter on top of a pickup though.

8 units sound about right to me, don't want them floating too much.

Also, it's funny how inexhaustibly regenerating bottles of magical insta-heal are OK, but inexhaustibly regenerating bottles of magical insta-heal that float are a step too far. xD

Thanks Icarus.

Assuming 75% of gamers are at some level (in-game) retarded, then I think it's up to us to craft a civilization where they may thrive and kill things in their innocent, simpleton world. The other 24% are trolls of course. 1% are mappers :)
