Sorry for the short notice people but I was just reminded that the following weekend is the end of the contest and some people wanted to get their maps tested out before then.

*update* US + UK game day.

Oh, and Map submission deadline: Friday, April 25 @ 5:00 pm

Game Days: Part X Recap

  • US server experienced some crashes due to map issues, hopefully those issues will have been fixed before this game day.
  • UK server experienced some crashes due to both map issues and Source TV, I believe they are working on ironing out those kinks now.
  • Other than those above stated problems both game days went fairly flawlessly.
Game Day: Part XI - April 26
** Advanced Disclaimer: This event is mainly to have fun, so all rules stated in this thread can, and probably will, be broken. **

Change of rules for this game day, only submissions that INCLUDE a link to a downloadable map will be accepted. Also DJive says to tell everyone to keep their map names ALL LOWERCASE, if it aint lowercase, dont submit it. (send all complaints to DJive)

When:

  • April 26 @ 4:00 pm EST (1:00 pm PST | 9:00 pm GMT) on the US server
  • April 27 @ 12:00 pm EST (9:00 am PST | 5:00 pm GMT) on Colt's UK server
Where:

  • Server configuration request / statement:
    • rtv turned off please
    • 30 minute map rounds
    • Start with testing maps, 30 minutes a map flexibly guaranteed. (aka if something goes wrong dont hate us)
  • April 26th: TF2Maps.net Official Server: 8.12.19.105:27015
  • April 27th: Youme's Custom Maps server: 84.45.84.166:27015
    • Links will take you straight to the server.
Map Rules: *note* updated
  • *note* we will NOT have a password on the server so any maps submitted can still be download by the general public and there is a chance they might like it enough to try and post it to the internet without first asking permission. Keep this in mind.
  • *new* If you are submitting a map please use TF2Maps.net to host the map, or if you must FPSBanana (or a private website is fine) This is mainly because I loathe download websites and if I have to download maps for the server, nothing is more annoying than waiting a random interval of seconds before I can finally start a download.
  • Map Submission Protocol
    1. *new* You must have a download link to the version of the map you want tested before I add you to the schedule. This will save me from having a nervous breakdown and ensure that all maps that are submitted will be on the server.
    2. *new* Keep all map names in lowercase.
    3. All debate over what maps are submitted, what maps are played, etc must be handled in this thread PRIOR to the game day. Once the map submission deadline is passed the rotation is set. Map rotation changes should not happen on the actual game day, you will have multiple days to air your woes prior to the actual game day.
    4. There will be two parts to the game day:
      1. Map Testing
      2. General get together where we play maps requested by our members in this thread.
    5. Map Testing will take place first, all maps submitted for testing purposes with receive 30 minutes of play time. Map testing slots will be assigned as maps come in.
    6. During General get together we will play the maps requested in this thread
  • Please include the following information when submitting a map:
    1. Map Name (ex. ctf_CoolestMapEver_b1)
    2. Link to map download (ex. http://www.coolsite.com/ctf_coolestMapEver_b1.bsp )
    3. Map is for testing: Yes / No-
Map List:
- All times listed in this section are EST.
- Deadline is Friday, April 26th @ 5:00 pm

Well the UK maplab worked fine for the second half of the last night and we've had a full server on it since then, no crashes so fingers crossed, everything is working fine again, but of course, now I've said that......:p

Not sure if I'll have the final version of bloodstained done by friday, in which case I'll let you lot loose on _b3, but untill I know for sure, no submission from me.

1. Name: cp_siege_alpha3b (this is only stages 2 & 3 of cp_siege_alpha3, as they haven't got much exposure yet!)
2. Link: http://andy.durdin.net/maps/cp_siege_alpha3b.7z (7zip, 2.2MB)
3. For testing
4. Discussion thread: http://forums.tf2maps.net/showthread.php?t=1620&highlight=cp_siege

Also a submission for a fun map after testing: XX_goldrush (whatever XX turns out to be), assuming it'll be out. Would be fun to play it with other tf2maps.net members.

Edit:

please use TF2Maps.net to hose the map
Ah, so that's why we were having map problems last week :p

Huh. cp_schism won't be finished by Friday (begging the question, why even submit to the contest, but I digress...). However, seeing as I have access to the redirect and server, I could upload it after the deadline, shove it to the end of the schedule, and playtesters would be none the wiser.

For now I'll assume that's not ok. If you think otherwise, let me know.

That sounds great, I will put the notice up on the Steam Community and update the above post.

Ok, fixed numerous typo's (mostly Copy+Paste errors) in the event, extended it to Sunday, and tossed the UK server info back in.

Map list updated as of now.

Whoever downloads the maps and uploads them to the server (I'm guessing ryodoan) I accidentally uploaded the bsp with a capital in it, so if you could kindly re download it, or else DJive will net be pleased... (I just uploaded the one without caps...)

Hopefully this is right... (so many rules!! hee hee. If there's something wrong with this submission, delete the post and PM me.)
---

These are the last 3 maps I've made.

Contraption: Features Dynamic/Random flag locations and you build a contraption as you go. The first four flags build the contraption. The contraption provides access to the fifth/final flag. The fifth flag you must obtain from the enemy base. Every game the first four flags are in different random locations.
Submitting Contraption for Testing

Clubhouse: Features huge moveable stones for dynamic strategy, and a hidden surprise for anyone trying to hang around inside the flag room.
Submitting Clubhouse for Fun

Barnacles: Features catapults, cannons, shields, and ships! Jump pads, too. You must shoot the regenerating force field to access the touch-activated button to get at the flag room.
Submitting Barnacles for Fun

These maps were made at the request of a small private group, and are normally played up to 4 on 4 on a private server. We play for fun only, no seriousness at all. We have fun playing these maps and will continue to have fun playing them, but figured it's remotely possible other folks might have fun playing them too.

However we do play with friendly fire enabled, so if it's possible to have that enabled, that would be a more accurate test.

They've all gone through several revisions as we've played them, and made adjustments where necessary. I've also used them to learn new mapping & optimization techniques as time has passed.

Well, its more than just me downloading the maps, last week I uploaded them to the Server and DJive (and TheBladeRoden?) uploaded them to the redirect server. Also you have the people from Colts playground using this list to update Youme's Custom map server for the UK game day and finally all the people that dont want to wait to download maps on the game day (last week it was around 6 people) download the maps ahead of time from this thread.

So I think your safe, I will not be downloading the maps to upload until after 5:00 pm today (friday) when the submission deadline is past.

These are the last 3 maps I've made...

While its not really a rule that you can only submit one map, I want to give as many different people a chance to have their maps tested. I think the list is going to be a bit short this week due to the short notice so we shouldnt really have a problem fitting you into the schedule, but I still feel bad giving one person an hour and a half lump of time in the middle of the game day.

The only big difference between the Testing vs. Fun map period is that if you map is in for testing, its guarranteed 30 minutes of gameplay no matter how much everyone dislikes it. For the Fun map period if the general consensus is that people want to move to a different map then we can do that, or if we want to extend a particular map because we are having fun on it then we can do that.

I can do several things without feeling guilty:

  1. Stick all three maps for testing at the end of the testing rotation.
  2. Stick one map in at the current time slot, then put the rest at the end of the testing rotation.
  3. Put one map in for testing, the rest in the fun section.
  4. Stick all three maps in the fun section.
I suppose the real question is, Are these finished maps or are you still open to suggestions on how to change them?

My personal reccomendation would be to stick all three maps at the end of the testing rotation so that they are all grouped nicely together while at the same time not clogging up the testing rotation. However its up to you really what you want to do.

*PS* just realized the rule section is getting a bit cluttered, for the next game day I will be sure to clean it up so that its smaller, more organized, and easier to read.

Forgive my stupidity. Is this 25th deadline for the map contest or just for playtest? I thought we had til the 30th for the contest.
