Hi,

so I followed Ravidges tut on pakrat ( http://forums.tf2maps.net/showthread.php?t=12601&highlight=pakrat)
and packed everything custom I used (textures, models) into the bsp. I forgot the skybox texture so I opened the bsp file again with pakrat and added the skybox texture.

As the map got hosted, everyone hat "ERROR" letters where the models would be and pink/black checkered ground where displacements were. That obviously means I didnt pack it. BUT: EVEN I GOT THOSE ERRORS AND PINK/BLACK CHECKERS even though I have all the models and stuff :O Custom skybox worked fine however, since that was what I packed the 2nd time.

Now, do I have to pack everything again when I want to add something?

You should only have to ever pack a bsp once, but pakrat does screw up occassionally. You may of happened to delete previous files accidently - or you may of recompiled your map since the previous pack?

Always check your bsp's files before releasing a map, it will kill you. I made a second steam file on my computer with no materials in it so I can check all my packed files - highly recommend this.

The usual error I encounter with pakrat is that it deletes all the information in the bsp forcing me to recompile (if I didnt keep another copy of it).

Do i need to install Tf2 a 2nd time as well? or just copy the yoursteamname/teamfortress2 folder?

And if I used pakrat, it creates a new file mapname.bsp.bak
Can i open this with pakrat and add things or wut?

I just copied over all my gcf's to my second steam folder. I'm not quite sure about the .bak file so I always made sure I had a second copy of my bsp stored somewhere on my HDD to be sure but I figure youd just rename the .bak file to "mymapname.bsp" but idk...

If you want to test that packing worked, have another version of your "tf" folder which has the bare-minimum that comes with TF2 and none of the custom materials or things servers make you download.

Swap the "real" tf folder with the testing one, start up TF2, run around the map to check, and then switch them back later.

to check them in-game just launch your tf2 with
sv_pure 1 (no file copying needed!!!)
or set it in the console (dont forget to restart your server)
and to fix the pakrat, just make sure they have the right file paths
