The map that I'm working on has a river running through the centre, and I want to make sloped banks so that players can get out of it. What I want to know is it better to make a sloped brush like below to turn into a displacement, or to make a vertical, 'cliff' like brush and push it out when its been turned into a displacement.

Turning the sloped brush into a displacement is way easier if you need a slope anyway, so i wouldnt bother dragging everything out afterwards (though it might not be that difficult with the recently added displacement tools).

I find that the sloped brush is quicker than a vertical brush when it comes to creating the displacement, but is a nightmare when it comes aligning the adjacent brushes so that they'll sew. The problem with a vertical brush is that while its quicker and simpler, it squashes the adjacent brushes, especially at the base.

If anyone has experience making sloped displacements please post.

Select a face.

Alt+RMB another face

Tada. Aligned.

EDIT: I didn't read "so they will sew". Sorry!

In that case:
Example VMF

(yes, thats less than 5 minutes of work - hence the light isnt that nice)

Quite simple actualy. I made a simple example of how you make it (yes, its a paint drawing). I hope this makes everything clear:

Thanks for that. I find that if I use the vertex tool to raise the bottom corner of the vertical face (so it looks like a triangle but still has 4 corners) it solves the problem of it going below ground.
