I just realized: For Tangent, the way that you made the poll, it actually gives him a smaller chance of winning since he has 2 entries. You should add all the votes gotten for both of his entries together...

I think that would be unfair on the other contestants who only made one entry.

Tangent knew that making two entries would spread his chances, and should be voted accordingly like that.

Booj: I loved it, all the secret stuff within a "normal" lighthouse, really effective use of the area provided, awesome spytech. Seemed a bit TOO lonely though, the skybox was fairly bland. Greeaat work :)

Engineer: Nice little composition going on, I liked how it integrated with the cliff, and the little metal red door suggesting something more sinister. The style seemed a bit too perfect though, and made me uneasy, and the viaduct windows looked a little odd. I wasn't sure why there was a huge blue poster on the wall though.

Midget: Silly dev textures >.< First off, need a cubemap around here! Geometry is somewhat interesting, feels very Death Star, I liked the drill on the bottom which seemed to be going downwards, but I feel you could have drawn more attention to it. It's lit rather poorly so you can't see what's going on at all, and you need more focus to specific areas.

Obso1337:It was fairly nice, you captured the gorge style quite well, nothing seemed to stand out to me though. I feel you could have done more with the water, that's probably the part that lets this entry down most.

Penguin: Didn't seem to be very much going on, just a lot of tents and blocks put together, and the sun wasn't even in the skybox. Displacement work wasn't bad, I liked how the bumpier areas had a different alpha blend on them to the flat areas. Maybe in a larger map situation it would look good, but how it is right now isn't that striking.

Prestige: Your brush skills could do with some work, and keep in mind that TF2 has quite angular geometry - meaning your circular forts seem fairly out of place. I liked how the floor appeared to have been chipped in places, with the concrete coming off - it seemed a nice detail. The inside pathways also intrigued me, with the shaded rooms giving a nice but subtle contrast from the bright outside. There were a few custom models which you forgot to pack into the BSP, and I also ran around with mat_leafvis 1 on and saw quite a lot of unnescessary leafs. Search for func_details and how to use them when mapping :)

Tangent1: It's definitely detailed, i'll give you that, heh. It seems almost TOO packed with detail though, and it goes against the minimalistic design of TF2. I'm quite impressed though, but it's too hard to find a good point to focus on. There's too much going on, my eyes are drawn in all directions. Nice touch with the sprite overlayed on the sun though.

Tangent2: Ow, why the huge reflective glass? Again, it feels like too much is going on, I get confused. None of the props are out of place per se, but I don't feel like I want to know why they're there either. Also it's ridiculously cramped. Feels quite like junction.

The poster is there because this is the blu side of the map.
The red on the door only means which way is the red base. I should have made it a bit different.

Yeah, I definitely went crazy with the detailing. Don't worry, the 5cp version will be toned down a bit. As for the glass, I'll need to ask Spud about how he got it looking so good in Haarp (the main inspiration for this detail piece)

As I said earlier, this was never intended for entry in this contest. It's a spawn(camp) for my collab map with func_door. I don't believe that a spawnroom should be too visually insane, especially in the Egypt theme.

Well.. I went through every map and wrote out a good paragraph for each one on what I thought to help everyone out. But then my damn parents thought it would be great to shut the breaker off to my room without telling me to do some wiring... Ffffffffffffffffffff

So I don't feel like writing all of them again and it happened right as I clicked Go Advanced to post it all in... which pissed me off the most. So I will just vote now.. Sry :(


Tangent1 I believe was the best, boojum in second. Just for the fact that boojums was unique, but no where NEAR as detailed as Tangents first entry. IMO putting a building on a rock above the clouds does not add enough detail to compensate for what little there was in the actual building.

I see 13 replies and 40 votes. I would like to have the people who voted maybe discuss why they voted for who they did. I think it would help the other who you didn't vote for what they might have been missing. =) Just my $.02 though.
